We are looking for a volunteer who can develop an employee handbook and make updates to our existing materials. We are currently a small agency with volunteers but are growing and hiring staff. Thus, we are looking to improve the benefits and be consistent in terms of what is offered to our employees. We're hoping to find a partner with a background in HR and/or operations to improve transparency and accountability by clarifying our employees’ rights and our policies, benefits, and other expectations for performance and conduct in a new or revised employee handbook.
This project will contain the following activities:
- Conducting an audit of our existing policies, including reviewing our existing materials and asking any clarifying questions
- Identify policies that we should modify and any new policies or areas that should be addressed and included
- Present a detailed outline of a new handbook
- Finalize the handbook after receiving feedback from our team
Life of Hope has been in existence for close to 20 years. For the majority of that time, their programs were staffed by volunteers. We work primarily with an immigrant population. With the current political climate are clients are stressed, and our staff is culturally sensitive to their needs. We have recently purchased a building and are embarking on a major renovation.
As our program grows, we want to ensure that as we hire employees, we comply with regulations. To prepare, we've designated a team member to oversee the project. We'll provide you with our existing Employee Handbook, internal communications regarding employment policies, and any other employment policies that we have in place. The volunteer should expect to spend 15-20 hours over 4-5 weeks.
I have personally worked with Taproot volunteers on other projects at another organization. So I am aware of what is involved, including flexibility with time. We have a template for a personnel manual, but we are amenable to recommendations from the consultant. I will work closely with the team at Life of Hope to ensure we respond quickly to any request by the volunteer.
Founded in 2006, the Life of Hope is a multifaceted community-based organization that fosters opportunities for youth and families in Central Brooklyn, with a focus on Haitians and other immigrant groups.
