Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Health System Senior Director, Development
- Foundation Relations
- Major & Principal Gifts.

In this role, the Senior Director Foundation Relations is a strategic leader within the Office of Development & Alumni Affairs. This position partners with Development leadership to drive the Foundation Relations team strategy and infrastructure and manages a team of gift officers focused on institutional fundraising. This leader will also consult with a working group on building and implementing a comprehensive corporate fundraising strategy.

The Senior Director will help Innovate foundation and corporate fundraising to align with NYU Langone Health’s mission to serve, teach, and discover. The role includes identifying strategic funding opportunities, leading and supporting proposal development, and building positive relationships with foundation donors and prospects. The position maintains an active donor portfolio aligned with NYULH priority areas.

Job Responsibilities
  • Close $8-10M annually with a focus on mid-6-figure and 7-figure gifts.
  • Manage and provide direction, leadership and guidance to a team of 3-5 foundation gift officers.
  • Enhance and innovate foundation fundraising approaches to leverage the dynamic environment of NYU Langone Health and the organization’s priority areas.
  • Strategically initiate and execute a full spectrum of foundation engagement activities in collaboration with institutional leadership, faculty, staff, gift officers, and other senior colleagues.
  • Cultivate new relationships, initiate dialogue, and develop funding opportunities with national, regional, and local foundations with emphasis on priority clinical, educational, and research initiatives.
  • Steward current foundation donors to strengthen existing relationships.
  • Proactively suggest, advise, and conceptualize solicitation strategies and proposal preparation with Development gift officers, scientists and physicians; maintain knowledge of institutional priorities, programs, and events for informed donor engagement.
  • Partner with physicians, scientists, administrators, and other gift officers to produce, write, and edit grant proposals, letters of inquiry, concept papers, and reports; manage proposals, letters of intent, budgets, and reports to meet donor/prospect deadlines.
  • Collaborate with leadership in the Office of Development, SPA, and OSR to enhance collaboration and leverage resources between offices.
  • Document development activity related to identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship using the Trax database.
  • Work with the Development and SPA post-award teams to comply with grant terms and reporting; provide follow-up and stewardship; meet deadlines after proposals are funded.
  • Conduct foundation prospect research to identify viable prospects complementing the work of Development Prospect Management colleagues, physicians and Medical Center staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have a Bachelor’s degree. 10-14+ years in healthcare foundation fundraising with a proven track record of managing complex portfolios, soliciting and securing new commitments, and building lasting relationships with institutional donors. Minimum of 5 years of management experience with strong collaboration, communication, team building, and team management. Deep knowledge of innovations in and experience with the local, national, and international foundation landscape.
