Health & Community Safety Volunteers Needed in Sunset Park

Raising Health is a community-based organization dedicated to improving access to food, health resources, education, and support across New York City. Volunteers are central to this work, and we offer a wide range of opportunities designed to meet people where they are—whether you’re looking to volunteer once, build skills over time, or grow into a deeper community role.

Our volunteer roles are flexible and responsive to volunteers’ interests, availability, and goals. Many volunteers begin with one type of opportunity and explore others as their schedules or interests evolve. Training and ongoing support are provided for roles that require additional responsibility, and volunteers are always welcomed as part of a collaborative, mission-driven team.

Volunteer opportunities include:

Community Action Volunteers – support one-time or occasional events such as food distributions, outreach efforts, and public programs. This is an accessible entry point for volunteers who want to make a direct impact without a long-term commitment.

Volunteer Fellows – work more closely with staff on ongoing projects and departmental needs. Fellows develop consistent schedules and contribute to planning, coordination, and program support while building practical skills and experience.

Food Access Volunteers (Foodies) – support our food pantry and distribution programs on a recurring basis, helping prepare, pack, and distribute food with care and dignity. Consistency in this role helps ensure smooth operations and reliable support for community members.

Community Care Advocates – are trained volunteers who provide supportive presence, outreach, and assistance during Raising Health programs. This role emphasizes reliability, communication, and values-aligned care to help foster a safe and welcoming environment.

Luminaries (Rays) – a youth volunteer pathway for young community members ages 14–15 who are beginning their journey in public health, advocacy, and community engagement. Participants take part in structured learning sessions paired with supervised, hands‑on volunteering to build foundational skills and explore civic leadership.

Depending on role and experience, volunteers may support:

• food distribution and pantry operations
• outreach and community engagement
• office and administrative support
• data entry, analysis, or technology support
• social media, marketing, and graphic design
• language tutoring or translation services
• community safety, de‑escalation, and support services
• clinical services (for licensed professionals)
