Footsteps supports, affirms, and advocates for individuals and families who have left, or are contemplating leaving, ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities in their quest to lead self-determined lives, and creates conditions that further their agency and independence. Based in New York City with remote options nationally, Footsteps offers members peer and emotional support groups, educational and career programs, divorce and custody support, social events and celebrations, and referrals to partner organizations for additional resources.
Since Footsteps began in 2003, we have served nearly 3,000 individuals as they work to define their own identities, build new connections and communities, and lead meaningful lives on their own terms.
Footsteps seeks an organized and resourceful individual to serve as the organization’s Community Engagement Associate. A primary component of this role is organizing the largest events that Footsteps holds for our community members and the Community Engagement Associate is responsible for managing all of the moving parts of these events. In this role, you will work across departments to ensure that our programs run smoothly and efficiently and meet Footsteps members’ needs.
Additionally, you will provide administrative support to the Footsteps Micro-grant program, bring creative energy and organizational wizardry to Footsteps’ community engagement events and groups, and ensure that key programs are captured in our database.
- Coordinate virtual, in-person, and hybrid community events and convenings, both large and small
- Serve as the key point person on all micro-grants, manage member communications and distribution of funds
- Collaborate with the Director of Community Engagement to utilize data collection methods to evaluate program impact
- Liaise with vendors, developing and maintaining professional working relationships
- Provide guidance and support to other program departments in running programs that support members and create a sense of community
- Ensure data capture and documentation in Salesforce, assist in pulling reportsli>
- Represent Footsteps to supporters and at public education events as needed
- Staff 2-4 evening and/or weekend programs at Footsteps each month

-3 years of relevant experience in community engagement, project management, or event planning. - Excellent organizational skills and impeccable attention to detail.
- Sound judgment and the ability to exercise discretion with confidential information.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Comfort working in a fast‑paced, growing organization with tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
- Skillful communicator with the ability to manage up and across various parts of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate problems, find opportunities, and improve systems with a solutions‑oriented mindset, flexibility, and optimism.
- Ability to work occasional late evenings or weekends.
- Ability to travel occasionally to Rockland and Lakewood is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.

This is a hybrid position, with in‑office days expected approximately 1-2 days per week. The ideal candidate works well in the office and from home.
