First Baptist Church of Avoca is seeking a humble, godly, faithful, spiritually mature man who possesses the gifts and skills needed to shepherd and grow the church, especially through evangelism, teaching, and discipling.
Primary tasks will include discipleship and generally providing pastoral care in harmony with the senior pastor.
QualificationsAn associate pastor must meet the qualifications as defined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9 and embody the heart of a shepherd as described in 1 Peter 5:1-4.

CharacterLives with integrity as a mature follower of Christ in his attitude, conduct, and obedience to Scripture.

ConsistencyExhibits faithfulness to God’s Word and to his church by serving as a trustworthy and hardworking servant leader who represents Christ well.
Responsibilities and Duties- Prayer: Pray for the spiritual growth of members and families of the church, for consistent and clear sharing of the gospel, and for exaltation of Christ in and through First Baptist Avoca.
- Planning: Plan and provide for groups that pray together, teach the Word, encourage one another, and train as obedient followers of Christ (e.g., men’s and women’s ministries, evangelistic and discipleship small group Bible studies).
- Leader Development: Identify, mentor, and equip leaders to make disciples and fulfill the ministry of the church (leading small groups, teaching Sunday school, extending gospel outreach).
- Teaching: Faithfully teach the Bible, facilitate Bible studies, and periodically preach on Sunday mornings.
- Pastoral Care: Provide pastoral care and spiritual counsel for individuals to grow in Christ.
- Evaluation: Review and evaluate discipleship ministries for Biblical faithfulness and practical effectiveness.
- Administration: Assist with general administrative functions of the church which include evangelism and discipleship ministries.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with the senior pastor, the Leadership Council, and ministry leaders to extend and deepen the disciple-making mission of the church.
