ABOUT THE FAMILY ENRICHMENT CENTER (FEC)
Supported by funding from the New York City Administration for Children Services (ACS) and the Division of Child and Family Well-Being (CFWB), the Family Enrichment Center (FEC) in Astoria will create a welcoming environment where community members can come together. The center offers a safe space for residents to connect, learn, and access essential resources for the betterment of families and individuals alike.

Serving as a hub for support, FECs not only reflect the unique essence of the neighborhood but also provide direct assistance and valuable resources. What makes FECs special is their focus on community involvement; families actively participate in shaping the centers' activities and initiatives. By fostering connections and empowering residents, the FEC will contribute to the overall well-being and resilience of the Astoria community.

JOB SUMMARY The FEC Family Advocate will be dedicated to cultivating strong relationships with FEC staff, community partners, and key stakeholders. This role is pivotal in ensuring effective collaboration and support for families served by the FEC. Success in this position hinges on an engaging and empathetic communication style. By building these essential connections, the Family Advocate will help enhance the support network and resources available to families, furthering the FEC's mission to empower and uplift the community.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIESMajor Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for supporting the daily operations of the FEC, including co-developing and implementing programs, offering direct advocacy for members, making referrals, and establishing a warm and inviting community space.

Greet new arrivals, proactively seek out volunteers, and make sure they feel like valued team members.

Organize, assist, and work alongside a team of local parents to host monthly events.

Coordinate communication and collaboration with community partners to enhance program offerings and resources.

Assist in tracking and reporting on program outcomes and member satisfaction to ensure continuous improvement and effective service delivery.

STATEMENT OF SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

An Associate’s Degree in social work, public policy, education, public administration, or related field; and/or equivalent experience.

Bilingual preferred (English and Spanish, Mandarin, Greek, or Bengali)
Lived and/or worked in Astoria or western Queens area preferred.

Strong interpersonal skills to connect with and engage children, youth, and families.

Experienced in data entry, generating reports, and making data-driven program decisions.

Excellent organizational skills with experience in event planning or a similar capacity.

Warm, outgoing, and enthusiastic, with the ability to positively impact diverse groups.

Team oriented, skilled at engaging commitment and promoting cooperation.

Experience in community organizing, political campaigns, and customer service.
