NELP advances its work through research, advocacy, litigation support and technical assistance designed to raise wages, end wage theft and workplace violations, ensure safe and healthy workplaces, strengthen unemployment insurance and workers’ compensation, secure employer accountability, expand employment of people with arrest and conviction records, and promote a comprehensive policy framework to build a good jobs economy.

As advocates for workers’ rights, including the right to organize and bargain over working conditions, bargaining unit staff at NELP are members of Local 2320, UAW.

Reporting to the Development Manager II, you will be a member of a small development team, play an active role in marketing, grant, individual giving, and events production. You will provide support to formulate and execute strategies to retain existing donors and attract new ones. You will work in a collegial and stimulating environment that values creativity, new thinking, and continuous improvement, and will work alongside others who share a passion for workers’ rights and are highly respected in their fields.

Your position may require you to:

• Drive ongoing research on foundations, individual donors, and philanthropic trends.
• Improve and maintain clean and accurate funder data in Salesforce.
• Support grant managers with compiling and organizing program materials for grant reporting.
• Process donations and follow-up with timely acknowledgement letters.
• Assist Development Manager II with event production for fundraising and cultivation efforts.
• Collaborate with programs and communications teams to create compelling content for the web, social media, and marketing materials reaching various donor groups, including appeals, annual reports, and newsletters.
• Provide administrative support for all fundraising efforts.

• A versatile writer, able to express your thoughts, arguments, and ideas clearly and effectively.
• Strong database management skills, preferably in Salesforce (but Salesforce experience not required).
• Highly organized with excellent time-management skills.
• Very comfortable with learning new technology.
• 1-3 years of experience in development or marketing/communications.
• Commitment to social, racial and economic justice.
• Curiosity and a sense of humor.

This position is based in New York City. Start date will be as soon as possible. Classification and compensation for NELP bargaining unit positions is commensurate with relevant experience and education and based on NELP’s collectively bargained scales. The Development Associate salary range for 1-3 years’ experience is $47,. Compensation also includes an excellent benefits package, including student loan repayment assistance for qualifying participants.

This position is in NELP’s bargaining unit, represented by National Organization of Legal Service Workers, UAW Local 2320.
