Position: DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

Reporting to the Managing Director of Development, the Development Coordinator will manage a wide variety of responsibilities across the fundraising channels of Stupid Cancer and will work to drive revenue growth, assist the Managing Director of Development (MDD) in developing and executing a comprehensive annual development plan and serve as a thought partner with the MDD on growth strategies.

The Stupid Cancer team reports to our New York City headquarters at least two days a week. Only candidates in the NYC area will be considered.

Founded in 2007, Stupid Cancer is the leader in building the adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer community, ending isolation, and making cancer suck less. We help the nearly 90,000 AYAs diagnosed each year and the 2million+ living in survivorship fight isolation and advocate for a better quality of life. Our cornerstone event, Cancer Con, brings AYAs together at the largest gathering of this community for a life-changing weekend.

Key Responsibilities Individual Giving and Stewardship
  • Portfolio Management :
    Oversee and cultivate individual giving channels including monthly donors, third party fundraisers/DIY, and cause marketing opportunities.
  • Peer-to-Peer Fundraising :
    Assist in growing the existing peer to peer DIY initiative by developing and executing strategy for engagement.
  • Stewardship :
    Manage digital fundraisers, including stewardship and acknowledgements.
  • Appeals Management :
    Manage logistics for direct mail and digital appeals including audience segmentation and timelines.
  • Junior Board :
    Liaison for Stupid Cancer's Junior Board providing operational support including the planning and execution of their annual retreat.
  • Manage and grow the Junior Board’s annual fundraiser, Another Stupid Challenge.
Development Operations & CRM
  • Administration :
    Serve as the primary CRM administrator for the fundraising team.
  • Gift Processing :
    Oversee donor data operations including report preparation, gift processes, donor tax receipts and acknowledgements.
  • Data Analysis :
    Maintain data integrity and develop progress-to-goal dashboards.
Events and Campaign Support
  • Cancer Con :
    Oversee exhibitor outreach, relationship management and registration setup with support from the event management team.
  • Sponsorship :
    Support sponsor and donor cultivation; solicit in-kind support.
  • Campaign Communications :
    Draft, design, and schedule development emails, digital newsletters, social media graphics and toolkits, to align with relevant communication strategies to increase donor engagement.
  • Programs Collaboration :
    Work with the Programs and Communications teams to ensure Stupid Cancer's shared communications calendars align with fundraising priorities.
  • Technical Management :
    Management of event platforms (e.g. ticketing, registration) for events including the upcoming 20th Birthday campaigns.
Required Qualifications
  • Four-year college degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 1-3 years of development experience
  • Proven success using CRM systems (Neon One, Bloomerang, Salesforce or similar and email marketing software)
  • High attention to detail and follow through
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize competing tasks
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and sensibility
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-efficiency, low-overhead environment with multiple priorities and demands, with a small but dedicated staff
