Drs. Shabnam Javdani and Erin Godfrey are seeking a Program Coordinator who is excited to implement a strong intervention, and to help shape and strengthen a growing program committed to changing the systems and conditions that constrain young people's lives. The candidate will coordinate and support the Resilience, Opportunity, Strength, Education, Safety (ROSES) Advocacy Program. Currently implemented in collaboration with the New York Community Trust, ROSES is a community-based program pairing girls and LGB/TGNC+ youth experiencing school pushout or who have had police, probation, or court contact with a highly trained advocate.

ROSES advocates work with young people in their communities free of charge to support them in their week, for 10-15 weeks, working with clients by providing access to resources and education, helping girls and young people define individual goals, supporting the development of self-efficacy skills, encouraging girls' and LGB/TGNC+ youths' engagement with multiple social contexts (school, family, peer, etc.), and promoting contextual competence to reduce school pushout, and child welfare and legal system involvement.

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and implementation of the ROSES program. This position combines program management, personnel supervision, community partnership development, and youth advocacy within the juvenile legal and child welfare systems. The Program Coordinator trains and supervises a team of 10-15 undergraduate and/or graduate advocates with strong model fidelity, ensuring high-quality and timely program implementation. The Program Coordinator also manages relationships with community partners and legal system stakeholders, collaborating across settings and systems within and outside of NYU, and supports youth and families through these complex systems.

Lastly, the Program Coordinator will be expected to monitor and track program implementation and fidelity, including overseeing and carrying out day-to-day administrative tasks within NYU's infrastructure.

ROSES is grounded in feminist, anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirming, trauma-informed, and community-based approaches that recognize and address the structural conditions that contribute to the criminalization of young people. We seek candidates who are committed to these principles and who approach their work with humility, curiosity, and a strong desire to partner with young people in pursuit of their self-determined goals. As such, the ideal candidate is both deeply committed to social justice and highly organized.

They will have a strong interest in community-based outreach and interventions that support individuals from minoritized and often-excluded racial and ethnic backgrounds, as well as working knowledge or a strong desire to learn about the needs of youth in child welfare and juvenile legal settings in New York City with a focus on girls and LGBT+ and gender expansive youth.

The role is well-suited for someone who is passionate about advancing equity and who is equally comfortable discussing structural racism and inequity as they are overseeing project tasks, providing constructive and strengths-based feedback to others, and trouble‑shooting implementation challenges. The successful candidate will be excited to build, train, and directly supervise advocates in their work with young people while coordinating multiple moving pieces across the program.

They will be comfortable providing weekly supervision and written feedback to advocates, providing on-call individualized support to advocates, clients, and families, and collaborating closely with ROSES leadership and supervisors and community partners, to ensure high-quality implementation of the intervention program.
