Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director of Institutional Giving, the Senior Manager of Institutional Giving supports the City Year New York Development and Communications team and collaborates frequently with City Year Headquarters. The role is part of the team responsible for securing approximately $4million of private revenue annually. Responsibilities include soliciting and maintaining institutional revenue, overseeing a developmental portfolio of institutional funders, conducting prospect research and cold outreach, and supporting organizational initiatives to drive student impact through national service.
The position is hybrid, with an expectation of at least two days per week in the Financial District office and as‑needed in‑person events.
- Corporate Revenue, Strategy and Stewardship: support leadership to prepare pitches, narratives, and reports for higher‑dollar corporate and foundation funding; conduct cold outreach on Linked In; cultivate and solicit prospective corporate and foundation partners; draft pitches, funding narratives, and reports for a portfolio; steward, renew, and grow a portfolio of corporate and foundation funders; manage projects across multiple internal teams; collaborate with the Events team;
create sell sheets, decks, and collateral; plan and lead calls, round tables, and site visits for partners. - Grants and Foundation Relations: support leadership to prepare LOIs, narratives, reports, budgets, and supporting documents for higher‑dollar private foundation funding; research and qualify prospective private foundation funders; oversee a developmental portfolio of General Operations private foundation funders; manage projects across teams; work with finance teams to create project‑specific budgets; report on outputs and outcomes; plan and lead calls, round tables, and site visits with foundation partners.
- General Responsibilities:
support execution of volunteer events and the Annual Gala; attend other Development events; support writing and design of general donor communications such as e‑newsletters, sales plays, and impact reports; manage accounts in Salesforce; send thank you notes and acknowledgment letters; attend community meetings.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience, preferably for an educational organization.
- Experience working with private foundations, corporations, and corporate foundations on the full moves management cycle including research, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Facility with budgets and revenue forecasting.
- Facility with translating quantitative and qualitative data into compelling narratives.
- Ability to build meaningful relationships with internal and external partners.
- Exceptional oral and written communication, research, prospecting, and project management skills.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, such as early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- Ability to adapt and excel in a high‑energy, entrepreneurial environment.
