About the RoleA nonpartisan, independent New York City government agency focused on elections, voter engagement, and campaign finance transparency is hiring an Outreach Coordinator to lead community engagement efforts that strengthen voter participation across the city. The agency's voter engagement initiative meets people where they are to share trustworthy election information and help New Yorkers make a plan to vote.
Reporting to the Senior Outreach Manager, the Outreach Coordinator builds partnerships, organizes events, conducts direct voter engagement in priority neighborhoods, and maintains accurate data and reporting practices. Outreach efforts typically roll out three to six months ahead of each election, targeting communities with historically lower participation due to structural barriers.
What the Role Covers- Organizing and leading outreach and community events to promote voter participation
- Conducting regular outreach activities in priority neighborhoods to strengthen awareness and build relationships
- Collaborating with the Education team to identify high-impact partners and co-create outreach plans with community organizations
- Organizing voter registration drives across the city, coordinating staff, interns, partners, and volunteers
- Recruiting volunteers and building a path for leadership development opportunities
- Supporting Get-Out-The-Vote efforts through event leadership and volunteer coordination
- Maintaining internal tracking of outreach efforts including event details, audience numbers, voter registrations, collateral distribution, and demographic reach
- Working with the Data team to build and maintain processes ensuring data tracking meets high standards for completeness and accuracy
- Updating and monitoring data systems and dashboards to measure, track, and evaluate outreach work
- Responding to voter inquiries with accurate information about voting and elections
- Bachelor's degree with at least 12 semester credits in business or public administration, computer science, economics, finance, statistics, or a closely related field, plus one year of relevant full-time experience; or a four-year high school diploma with five years of equivalent experience
- Knowledge of voter activation platforms such as VAN, Mobilize, or REACH
- Knowledge of volunteer recruitment, training, and management best practices
- Experience with CRM and data systems for accurate tracking and reporting
- Skilled at engaging with members of the public in a positive, accessible way
- Ability to break down complex civics topics into audience-appropriate content
- Ability to travel across the city via public transit and work outside standard hours during peak election season (8 weeks prior to elections)
- Previous experience with elections and voting work, especially in NYC
- Experience leading citywide or large-scale public engagement campaigns for voter mobilization
- Understanding of voter universe creation and targeting for nonpartisan engagement
- Proficiency in one or more of the agency's covered languages
