The Opportunity

The Kaj Seifert Foundation for Aspiring Young Artists is seeking an experienced, mission-driven nonprofit professional to serve as our Part-Time Executive Director to expand capacity beyond its small all-volunteer Board of Directors. This is a contractor position of approximately 500-600 hours per year, offering the rare chance to shape the future of a small but impactful organization dedicated to expanding arts access for young people in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming.

Workload will vary by season, intensifying around fundraising, recruitment and fulfillment of grants.

The Kaj Seifert Foundation for Aspiring Young Artists is a nonprofit organization (501(c)3) committed to providing aspiring young artists with opportunities to explore new art forms and pursue their creative passions. Through strategic grant-making and community partnerships, we connect young people with the experiences, instruction, and resources that help them grow—whether that means enrolling in a first ceramics class, attending a summer music intensive, purchasing an instrument or exhibiting their work for the first time.

We are a small, mission-driven organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. Our work is grounded in the belief that access to the arts transforms lives, and that every young person deserves the chance to explore their creative potential regardless of background or financial circumstance.

The Executive Director works under the direction of the Board of Directors and is responsible for these primary areas:

• Development & Fundraising:
  Identifying grant opportunities, writing proposals, building funder relationships
• Grant Writing:
  Preparing compelling, well-researched applications to foundations, corporations, and government sources and filing required funder reports on schedule
• Grant Administration:
  Managing the award process for our youth artist recipients from marketing to application to grant fulfillment and final reporting
• Administration and Operations:
  Maintaining organizational records, files, reports and documentation in good order; supporting strategic planning and board governance activities; and building professional relationships with donors, artists, teachers, and the arts communities in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming.

This role also involves light organizational administration, board support, and serving as a professional ambassador for the organization.

The schedule is flexible. Most work is performed remotely.

The ideal candidate brings:

• A proven track record in nonprofit grant writing
• The ability to manage multiple deadlines and funder relationships simultaneously, independently, and reliably
• Strong written communication skills and a professional, warm presence with funders, recipients, and board members
• Genuine enthusiasm for the arts and for expanding opportunities for young people
• Proficiency with standard office technology
• Experience administering grant programs or managing award processes is preferred
• Familiarity with youth-serving or arts organizations is preferred

Compensation:
Independent contractor (Form 1099) $30-$35 per hour to start. Initial contract of 18 months, renewable by mutual agreement.
