JOB TYPE:Part-time

REPORTS TO:Program Director

SUPERVISORY ROLE:No

COMPENSATION RATE:Bi-weekly living allowance of $750.00

EDUCATIONAL AWARD:$2,817.14; received upon completion of the program

18-20 hours

POSITION SUMMARY

CENTER FOR FAMILY LIFE, a nationally recognized social service program in Sunset Park Brooklyn, is seeking enthusiastic individuals to serve as Ameri Corps
Volunteers to support youth engagement programs and promote student leadership development and career readiness. Ameri Corps Volunteers will work collaboratively with staff and will gain experience in working with middle schoolers and learn about the social work group model. Our ideal candidate has knowledge and a demonstrated interest in working with youth and will utilize a strengths-based approach to enrich the lives of youth, families and community.

I.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise students in a variety of activities and clubs focused on arts, homework assistance and enrichment, team building and leadership development
  • Co-facilitate after school clubs with CFL staff members
  • Attend trainings relating to social group work and team meetings
  • Assist in the design and implementation of special events for middle school students, families and the community like Game Night, Winter Wonderland, Spring/Fall Fest, Performances, etc.
  • Co-facilitate weekly arts and or teambuilding activities
  • Perform office duties as necessary (light data entry, filing, copying, answering phones)
II. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Some college experience preferred
  • Experience working with youth on leadership development, service learning, and/or college exploration
  • Must enjoy working with middle school students, working in groups, collaborating with others, and being part of a community
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Chinese, a plus
  • Experience with role playing games, a plus
  • 3 references required (2 must be professional)

In addition, volunteers need to possess the following characteristics:

  • Detail-oriented, flexible and be a team player
  • Must have a sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and students
  • Must possess a strong belief in people's ability to grow and change; forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families
  • Must have the ability to set limits and to intervene appropriately; always maintains helping role of practitioner
III. RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS
  • Must enjoy working with middle school students, working in groups, collaborating with others, and being part of a community
  • Must be comfortable in shadowing and assisting experienced teaching artists.
  • Build and maintain close, daily interactions with participants, coworkers, and supervisors
  • Have a strong sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and clients within our organization
  • Possess a strong belief in young people’s ability to grow and change
  • Has a flexible personality, ready to switch tasks when asked
IV. WORKING CONDITIONS
  • All Ameri Corps volunteers will be working onsite at MS936
  • Actively engage and interact with students each day
  • May be required to be active by walking, bending, standing, squatting or sitting on the floor with students
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high energy level
WORK SCHEDULE

2026-27 School Year [October
- June]

Between the hours of 2PM- 6 PM

Monday through Friday

Work schedule to be further discussed with supervisor upon hire.
