Hourly, The Opportunity

El Puente is seeking an organized, welcoming, and community-centered Evening Coordinator to support evening programming at the Beacon Leadership Center.

Working Monday through Friday during evening program hours, the Evening Coordinator helps ensure participants are welcomed, activities run smoothly, and youth and families remain connected to Beacon programming.

Outreach and membership engagement are an important part of this position. The Evening Coordinator helps recruit and engage participants, follows up with youth and families, supports enrollment, and promotes opportunities for continued participation in Beacon and El Puente programming.

This is a hands-on, part-time role for someone who enjoys working directly with young people and families and can help create an organized, welcoming, and engaging evening program environment.

About El Puente

Founded in 1982, El Puente is a youth-centered human rights organization rooted in Brooklyn, New York and Puerto Rico, using the arts, education, environmental justice, and community organizing as tools to inspire and nurture leadership for peace and justice.

For over four decades, El Puente has been building community-led movements grounded in self-determination, where young people, families, and communities are not only participants, but leaders shaping the future of their neighborhoods and beyond. Through a holistic leadership and membership model, the organization creates spaces where culture, identity, civic engagement, and activism intersect.

El Puente's work spans Youth Leadership Centers across Brooklyn, a nationally recognized public high school, environmental justice initiatives, and organizing efforts that place community voice at the center of change.

At its core, El Puente is deeply relational, intergenerational, and community-rooted. The work is dynamic and responsive, grounded in the lived experiences of the communities it serves.

The Role

Reporting to the Program Director and Assistant Program Director, the Evening Coordinator provides hands-on support during evening Beacon programming.

The Evening Coordinator helps coordinate the flow of evening activities, supports participant attendance and engagement, communicates with youth and families, and responds to day-to-day program needs.

The position also supports the Beacon's outreach and membership efforts by helping connect new and returning participants to programming and conducting follow-up with youth and families to encourage consistent participation.

Key Responsibilities

Evening Program Coordination

  • Support the daily flow of evening Beacon programming.
  • Welcome participants and families and serve as a consistent point of contact during evening hours.
  • Support participant check-in, attendance, transitions between activities, and dismissal.
  • Help ensure program spaces remain organized, welcoming, and ready for activities.
  • Respond to routine participant and program needs and communicate concerns to Beacon leadership.
  • Support evening staff with program coordination and communication as needed.
  • Serve as Administrator on Duty (AOD) when assigned.

Outreach & Membership Engagement

  • Conduct outreach to youth and families to promote Beacon programs, activities, and enrollment opportunities.
  • Follow up with prospective and returning participants regarding enrollment, attendance, and upcoming programming.
  • Assist youth and families with the enrollment and onboarding process.
  • Support El Puente's Membership Model by helping participants feel welcomed, connected, and engaged in the Beacon community.
  • Encourage consistent participation by following up with youth and families when attendance decreases.
  • Support outreach activities such as school-based outreach, tabling, community events, and phone outreach as assigned.

Participant & Program Support

  • Maintain accurate attendance, outreach, and participant information related to evening programming.
  • Help collect and organize required participant enrollment documents.
  • Communicate participant or family needs to the Program Director, Assistant Program Director, or appropriate staff member for follow-up.
