Today PHS serves 200,000+ New Yorkers annually, and we support the work of more than 200 community-based nonprofit organizations. PHS implements innovative, cost-effective population-based health programs;

conducts research providing insight on effective public health interventions; and provides services to government and other nonprofits to address public health issues. Highlights of our work include:

• Providing direct services to over 80,000 New Yorkers a year, primarily families with children. These services address critical needs in low-income communities, including food security; nutrition and obesity; women’s reproductive health; early childhood development; HIV prevention and access to care; quality healthcare access; and tobacco control.
• Promoting the imminent eradication of AIDS in NYC through research, service delivery and funding administration. We engage 200+ community-based organizations around the city in HIV-related outreach. Our network serves 96,000 people living with or at risk of becoming infected with HIV/AIDS.
• Developing technology-based interventions and social marketing public health campaigns using video, social media, and interactive internet-based applications, specifically in the areas of reproductive health, HIV prevention and childhood obesity prevention.

PHS is seeking an experienced Grant Writer to join our Development and Marketing team. The position is responsible for developing and writing grant proposals for private and corporate foundations to secure unrestricted operating revenue and restricted program support. The Grant Writer will direct prospect and grant research; develop and maintain a portfolio of private funders; build and execute strategies to solicit new private and corporate foundation funding;

support PHS’ Programs and Research in government grant submissions, as needed; and manage all grant-related systems including Raiser’s Edge tracking, board reports and business development meetings. The PHS Grant Writer will also lead foundation relationships to build new contacts, introduce PHS president and other appropriate staff to foundation leads, engage and develop relationships with prospective funders, and maintain relationships on behalf of our organization.

• Create and direct a fundraising plan that sets annual revenue and relationship goals for funding from private and corporate foundations, and is managed and revised as needed to meet organization’s immediate and long-range needs.
• Steward existing foundation supporters, develop relationships with new donors and arrange meetings with foundation officers and the President other staff as appropriate.
• Write and edit grant proposals, cover letters, correspondence and grant reporting; assemble and submit grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, presentations and other supporting materials.
• Supervise a Development Assistant in grant research to identify new foundation funding streams; update tracking systems for grant submissions, reports and deadlines; and maintain all necessary back up and supplemental materials for grant submissions.
