Job Overview:

Henry Street Settlement opens doors of opportunity to enrich lives and expand human progress for Lower East Side residents and other New Yorkers through social services, arts, and health care programs. Building on its 130+ year legacy of innovation and practical programming, Henry Street offers over 50 programs and is one of New York City’s largest social service agencies.

Program Overview:

Henry Street’s Department of Integration and Community Engagement (DICE), part of Henry Street’s Executive Division, where this initiative will be housed, is a new initiative in the agency geared towards fostering more authentic community connections. CRT Interns will also act as our “street team” or community outreach workers, supporting resource delivery, information sharing, marketing, food preparation, recruitment, clerical work, voter registration, and recreational activities.

Interns will also support various HSS sites, including, but not limited to, OAC, CCC, sports programming, and Abrons Art Center.

• Work in collaboration with the program manager to ensure the program operates according to schedule.
• Participate in required program orientation.
• Support other Henry Street departments including, but not limited to CCC, AAC, ECE, and TSH.
• Support other CBO events and programming including, but not limited to Lower East Side Girls Club, United Jewish Council, and UA3.
• Load/unload food boxes from delivery vehicles and distribute groceries throughout the day to community members and homebound older adults in need.
• If you are over 18, must enroll and participate in Jobs Essentials Training (JET) and connect with Pathways Navigator to support career future and connect with other Henry Street programs.
• Provide recruitment and outreach for all HSS programs that request it.
• Promote voter registration and civic engagement.
• As needed, attend and set up community events, sometimes on evenings and weekends.
• Participating in educational programming including environmental, financial literacy and mentoring programs.
• Adhere to Henry Street’s time and attendance guidelines, program policies, and other department and agency procedures.
• Navigate safely through New York City’s congested streets and Lower East Side NYCHA developments.
• Other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

• Must live in the Lower East Side (zip codes 10002, 10009, 10038).
• Between the ages of 17-24.
• Being bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Chinese is a strong plus.
• Friendly, reliable, and punctual team player with solid communication skills.
• Available to work 20 hours a week including weekdays, weekends, mornings and evenings.
• Physically fit and able to carry items that are 40 pounds within HSS sites and LES community NYCHA housing development(s).
• Committed to community service and supporting LES residents in need.
• Familiarity with the Lower East Side community or a willingness to learn quickly.
• Show an interest in areas of community service, culinary arts, child and older adult care, environmental services, administrative and resource management.
• Comfortable working with older adults and small children.
