DescriptionJOB SUMMARY
The Emergency Department (ED) Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing patient care and daily operations within the Emergency Department. Reporting directly to the Emergency Department Director of Nursing, this position provides both clinical leadership and operational oversight to ensure that the ED functions safely, efficiently, and in alignment with hospital standards and regulatory requirements.
The ED Nurse Manager provides leadership, mentorship, and direction to nursing and ancillary staff, promoting cooperation, teamwork, and excellence in patient care. This position is integral in ensuring compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and EMTALA regulations; maintaining departmental quality metrics (including LWBS, door-to-balloon, sepsis, and stroke times); and fostering staff development and engagement.
The Nurse Manager partners with the ED Provider Leadership & Hospital Leadership to improve output, optimize staffing, and enhance patient experience. Responsibilities also include participation in budget planning, payroll review, scheduling, and performance evaluations. The Nurse Manager actively leads or co-leads quality improvement initiatives, Root Cause Analyses (RCA), and After-Action Reviews (AAR) to support ongoing departmental improvement.

JOB REQUIREMENTS- Education & Licensure
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required;
Master’s degree (MSN, MHA, or related field) strongly preferred. - Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required.
- Specialty certifications (CEN, NE-BC, TNCC, ENPC) preferred.
- Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of progressive emergency nursing experience required.
- Prior charge nurse or supervisory role required.
- Management experience in ED operations strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with triage redesign, Fast Track, and throughput optimization initiatives.
- Skills & Attributes
