The School Nurse promotes student health, safety, and wellness by providing nursing services during the school day. This role supports students’ physical and emotional well‑being, manages health conditions, and collaborates with families, staff, and healthcare providers to ensure a safe and healthy school environment.
About the SchoolEstablished in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School is a Modern Orthodox, co‑educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary (2‑year‑olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor.
Responsibilities- Provide direct nursing care to students for illness, injury, and medical needs during the school day
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and school policies
- Develop and maintain individualized healthcare plans (IHPs), emergency care plans, and IEP health accommodations
- Monitor and manage chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies, etc.)
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid and life‑saving interventions as needed
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with FERPA
- Monitor immunization compliance and communicable disease protocols
- Communicate with families regarding student health concerns and follow‑up care
- Collaborate with administrators, teachers, counselors, and support staff to support student wellness
- Provide health education and promote healthy habits and disease prevention
- Ensure compliance with state and local health regulations and school policies
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe health office
- Participate in school meetings and crisis response planning
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), as required by state or school
- Valid state nursing license in good standing
- Experience in pediatric, community health, or school nursing preferred
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain
- Knowledge of school health regulations, documentation, and confidentiality standards
- Strong clinical judgment and decision‑making skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple needs simultaneously
- Compassionate, calm, and professional demeanor
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
Salary range for this role is $75,000.00- $, depending upon education and experience.
