Volunteers will coordinate with playroom assistants and child life specialists in providing recreational activities for developmental stimulation and diversion, normalizing the hospital environment through play. Volunteers will follow all infection prevention and PPE protocols to provide a safe environment through toy cleaning, daily maintenance of play areas and individual precautions.
Nursing Unit Comfort Care Volunteer- Rounding with patients in the nursing unit
- Answering call bells
- Providing comfort by offering water, ice and blankets
- Speaking with and reading to patients
- Greeting visitors
- Providing comfort and assistance for patients and their loved ones during outpatient procedures
- Assisting staff with non‑clinical tasks
- Rounding on patients, families, and visitors
- Organize playroom groups for games, art, music, video games, and more
- Engage in bedside visits with individual patients for crafts and games
- Navigate the cart throughout approved CHAM units
- Distribute complementary drinks, healthy snacks, coloring books, and other items
- Assist families with needs while in the room
- Provide comfort such as coffee, snacks, TV, and more
- Provide indirect patient care such as setting up and cleaning treatment areas
- Provide therapists with equipment and supplies
- Welcome and direct patients and family members
- Collect surveys
- Observe treatment sessions as appropriate
PT/OT Support Volunteers:
This program does NOT allow clinical patient contact.
- Provide indirect patient care, including setting up and cleaning treatment areas
- Provide equipment and supplies per therapists' requests
- Transport patients
- Welcome and direct patients and family members
- Observe treatment sessions as appropriate
- Perform light clerical duties
Pre‑PA Support Volunteers:
This program does NOT allow clinical patient contact.
- Minimum commitment of 100 hours of service; at least 3–4 hours per shift
- Minimum age 16 years (18 if volunteering in Child Life or ED Comfort Care)
- Open to volunteers of all educational levels and stages of life
- Applicants must be applying or have applied to PT/OT school for PT/OT support roles
- Applicants must be applying or have applied to PA school for Pre‑PA support roles
- Complete an online application
- May be invited to complete a video interview
- Send additional information request to volunteer services
