Location: New York
Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) offers a part‑time Physician Assistant – Health Equity for Adolescents in the Legal System (HEAL) with the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS). PAGNY staffs several municipal hospitals and clinics in New York City through an affiliation agreement with NYC Health + Hospitals
. The HEAL Program provides 24/7 medical care to adolescents in city custody, across two secure detention sites, two school‑based health centers, and limited pharmacy services at seven non‑secure sites. Services include comprehensive medical screenings, dental screenings, vaccinations, routine testing, immediate care responses, and referrals for off‑site care within and outside the NYC Health + Hospitals system.
- Work locations:
Crossroads Juvenile Center and/or Horizon Juvenile Center. - Schedule:
21 hours per week – Days, Overnight, and Weekends. - Provide medical care to ACS adolescents while maintaining safety and security measures.
- Take patient history, identify needs, and make diagnoses.
- Develop and implement treatment plans using diagnostic data.
- Perform complete well‑care examinations, including physical examinations.
- Perform complete gynecological histories and physical examinations.
- Write prescriptions, inform patients about medications, and obtain parent/guardian consents when needed.
- Complete medical forms and documentation related to patient care.
- Make and track referrals to other agencies and providers, ensuring follow‑up care.
- Assist with phlebotomy as needed to ensure smooth patient flow.
- Administer immunizations as needed.
- Distribute, refill, discard, and discontinue medications for patients.
- Complete Court Orders and all other ACS‑mandated paperwork.
- Evaluate and treat ACS employees on an emergent basis only.
- Provide health education on preventive medicine, chronic disease counseling, parenting, prenatal care, nutrition, family planning, medication usage, and stress management.
- Administrative duties
:- Act as on‑site supervisor of Patient Care Associates in the field.
- Teach PCAs about patient care and triage, improve patient flow, and communicate with the Director of Nursing regarding clinic status.
- Participate in case conferences discussing patient care.
- Assist the Medical Director in developing and implementing medical protocols and forms.
- Initiate and participate in research related to health care or allied fields in collaboration with the Medical Director.
