Job Overview
We are looking for a full‑time Registered Nurse to support adults with developmental disabilities at a residential program in Brooklyn. This position includes a $10,000 sign‑on bonus and requires one weekend day per week (Tuesday‑Saturday or Sunday‑Thursday).
Key Responsibilities- Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team and coordinate health‑care services for assigned residents.
- Conduct training for staff in medical administration, personal hygiene, first aid, dental hygiene, infection control, adaptive equipment, vital signs, signs and symptoms of illness, and other in‑services as needed.
- Control communicable diseases and infections through identification, assessment, reporting to consulting physician, and implementation of appropriate protective measures.
- Develop, supervise, review, and revise each resident’s written health‑care plan according to physician instructions and assessments.
- Integrate therapeutic intervention techniques into programs or homes of the person served through consultation with parent/guardian and staff at team meetings, case conferences, or other informal contacts.
- Develop written plans for nursing services as part of total habilitation programs.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and annual reviews.
- Monitor staff health records and provide tests per regulatory requirements.
- Provide immediate first aid with referral to outside emergency services or private physician.
- Maintain scheduling system for all appointments, schedule appointments, and follow up on physician recommendations.
- Keep accurate records of examinations, immunizations, illnesses, accidents, and other data via progress notes.
- Administer medications as appropriate and supervise AMAP certified staff in medication administration.
- Provide supervision and training for Licensed Practical Nurses and less experienced Registered Nurses during their tenure at the agency.
- Monitor progress for self‑administration of medication.
- Obtain consents for surgery of residents.
- Review diagnostic work and consult.
- Attend team meetings as scheduled.
- Attend to individuals’ medical conditions and quarterly examinations as indicated.
- Keep abreast of changes in the nursing field.
- Participate in medical reviews for individuals.
- Carry agency cell phone and be on‑call; respond to physician treatment plan questions.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
- License and current registration as a Registered Nurse in the state of New York.
- CPR certification.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers, employees, individuals, families, and outside contacts.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Knowledge of equipment typically used by persons receiving services, including wheelchairs and adaptive devices.
- Willingness to work at various program sites.
- Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing.
- At least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in the delivery of community‑based health services to individuals with developmental disabilities.
$57/hour – $63/hour plus a $10,000 sign‑on bonus. Industry‑leading benefits for all full‑time employees.
