Position SummaryQueens Surgical Center is seeking a highly organized, adaptable, and patient-focused Dental Assistant / Patient Care Associate (PCA) to join our multidisciplinary surgical team. This unique dual-role position is ideal for a professional who thrives in a fast‑paced clinical environment and is comfortable in transitioning between dental surgical support and patient care coordination in a vision care setting.
The selected candidate will play a vital role in ensuring safe, efficient clinical operations while delivering exceptional patient care and support throughout the surgical experience.
Key Responsibilities- Assist dentists and oral surgeons during procedures, including sedation and surgical cases.
- Prepare and maintain sterile instruments, surgical trays, and dental equipment in accordance with ASC and infection control standards.
- Take, process, and document dental radiographs as directed.
- Ensure operatories are fully stocked, organized, and ready for procedures.
- Monitor and maintain dental supply inventory; coordinate restocking as needed.
- Support patient positioning and assist with monitoring vital signs under clinical supervision.
- Provide clear pre-operative and post-operative instructions and compassionate patient support.
- Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Adhere to OSHA regulations, infection control protocols, and ASC safety policies.
- Manage patient flow and back-of-house traffic to ensure efficient clinic operations.
- Escort patients to and from procedure rooms and coordinate transfers as needed.
- Assist clinical staff with patient preparation and post-procedure recovery support.
- Monitor patient movement to maintain safety and minimize delays.
- Communicate effectively with nursing and surgical staff to optimize workflow.
- Provide a professional, calm, and supportive presence for patients and families.
- Strictly adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, and Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) infection control protocols.
- Participate in quality assurance initiatives and patient safety programs.
- Maintain a clean, sterile, and organized clinical environment at all times.
- Support continuous improvement efforts within the surgical center.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 1–2 years of Dental Assistant experience required.
- Current CPR/BLS certification required.
- Experience in oral surgery and/or ASC setting is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in dental terminology, radiography, and surgical asepsis.
- Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced surgical environment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with patient transfers.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs as needed.
- Typical schedule:
Monday-Friday (with possibility of early morning start for first case). Weekends sometimes. - No major holidays or weekends (though some ASCs may require occasional flexibility).
- Based in Brooklyn and able to commute to Flushing, Queens for training.
