Position: Assistant Nurse Manager MedSurgRehab 811 Evenings LOH
Location: New York

Position Summary

Assistant Nurse Manager Med/Surg/Rehab (8&11) Evenings (LOH) – provides clinical leadership and management for a designated shift for a patient care unit or clinical service in operative and ambulatory settings. Assists the nurse manager to develop and sustain an environment of excellence in patient/family service, staff growth and development, and to apply evidence‑based practice to improve patient care.

  • Monitors attendance and ensures appropriate staffing and skill mix while promoting fiscal responsibility.
  • Coordinates care delivery and staff assignment based on patient care needs and clinical competency.
  • Assists in scheduling, payroll, and integrating services across the care continuum.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed to support clinical operations.
  • Provides leadership support of other unit(s) in the service.
  • Holds self and others accountable for delivery of exemplary, cost‑efficient care.
  • Assists with maintaining accreditation, regulatory standards, service standards, and policies at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Communicates with clarity and integrity to build trust with all stakeholders.
  • Communicates significant patient care issues, safety, risk management, and critical events to leadership, seeks consultation when indicated, and reports to the Nurse Manager or Director promptly.
  • Communicates regularly with the Nurse Manager about patient safety, staff performance, and participation in unit initiatives.
  • Participates in drafting nursing and organizational policy, engaging front‑line staff and incorporating shared governance principles.
  • Supports data collection and analysis with interprofessional team to drive practice changes that integrate quality, safety, patient experience, and productivity metrics.
  • Assists leadership team in maintaining licenses, certifications, mandated learnings, and content for unit staff.
  • Fosters high‑reliability concepts within the unit/organizational structure.
  • Fosters a culture of inquiry, innovation, and transformation focused on the future.
  • Participates in staff involvement in nursing research, quality improvement, and evidence‑based practice efforts.
  • Leads and supports developing new insights to complex situations, innovative designs, and processes.
  • Exercises independent judgment regarding discipline, evaluation, time‑off approval, assignment of work, and hiring decisions.
Minimum Qualifications

Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in New York State;
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing;
Two or more years of clinical practice in the patient population served;
Clinical certification in the patient population served or nurse leader certification;
Ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes;
Evidence of excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking, problem‑solving, and leadership skills;
Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association;
Physical stamina, dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities.

Required Licenses

Registered Nurse License‑NYS, Basic Life Support Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in nursing or health‑related area.
