Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a part time Nurse Practitioner in Clinical Research in Brooklyn.
In this role, the successful candidate will provide, coordinate, and ensure comprehensive nursing care using the nursing process and relevant standards of care, diagnose illnesses and physical conditions, and perform therapeutic, corrective, and prescriptive measures within a collaborative practice agreement with a physician on the NYU Hospitals Center staff.

- Monitor and trend cost effectiveness of the position relative to efficiency and performance indicators.
- Assist in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable.
- Work collaboratively with nursing and other disciplines to develop and implement clinical studies within your area of expertise.
- Use evidence‑based health care literature to advise on and support appropriate practice changes.
- Participate in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established protocols for quality and performance improvement.
- Serve as a clinical expert and resource for the education of peers and other health professionals.
- Maintain current expertise in your area of practice.
- Promote your own professional growth and development in clinical and managerial role.
- Consider the needs and behaviors of specific patient age and cultural groups in all patient care.
- Evaluate treatment and health care plans for effectiveness and modify them per clinical standards and practice protocols.
- Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws.
- Facilitate continuity of care across the continuum of services.
- Provide consultation on therapeutic regimens to nursing staff in the hospital setting.
- Work collaboratively with nursing leadership to ensure timely communication with nursing staff.
- Work collaboratively with the attending physician to maintain timely and appropriate communication with family members, house staff, other disciplines, and ancillary services.
- Participate in the development and revision of interdisciplinary and nursing standards, patient, and family education materials relevant to your area of practice and expertise.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement therapeutic care plans for a group of patients and ensure communication with family.
- Plan and organize care to meet individual patient needs and ensure appropriate clinical resource utilization per protocols, pathways, and other means.
- Prescribe medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol.
- Prescribe inpatient and discharge medications, including controlled substances with DEA authorization, in accordance with New York State law.
- Collaborate with attending physician, consulting physicians, and other disciplines to identify, develop, and implement a plan of care that maximizes patient/family preference while enhancing quality, access, and cost‑effective outcomes.
- Formulate the plan of care with the attending physician, patient, and family based on expected goals of care and length of stay.
- Order customary laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies per practice protocols.
- Perform complete health history, physical examination, and psychosocial assessment of patients within the designated practice or clinical unit.
- Function as a respectful member of the health care team.
- Participate in designated activities related to professional nursing standards and relevant outside agencies.
- Current registration as a Professional Nurse in New York and registration as a Nurse Practitioner in New York.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing.
- Certification by the ANCC or an equivalent board certification within the nurse practitioner specialty, achieved as soon as feasible after completing the graduate program.
- Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association.
