Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
New York, NY, US
Experience: Entry Level
Salary: $155,000 - $185,000 per year
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, and ongoing behavioral health treatment for patients across the lifespan. This provider collaborates closely with primary care providers, therapists, case managers, and care coordination teams to deliver integrated, trauma‑informed behavioral healthcare. The PMHNP will play a key role in improving access to psychiatric services while supporting patients with mental health and substance use disorders.
Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments
- Diagnose and treat mental health disorders
- Develop individualized treatment plans
- Provide medication management and monitoring
- Perform risk assessments and crisis intervention when needed
- Collaborate with therapists, primary care providers, and care teams
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment options
- Participate in interdisciplinary case conferences
- Support integrated behavioral health initiatives
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards
Required
- Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited PMHNP program
- Active New York Nurse Practitioner license
- Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC)
- Active DEA registration
- Current NPI number
- Experience providing psychiatric medication management
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
Preferred
- FQHC, community health, or integrated care experience
- Substance use disorder treatment experience
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Experience serving underserved populations
- Knowledge of trauma‑informed care principles
