Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
The primary functions of an LPN include assisting with assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of all patients during their shift. Responsible for meeting the established standards of skilled nursing practice. The Licensed Practical Nurse collaborates with the care team and participates in interdisciplinary care while advocating for patients. Effectively provides person-centered care and services. Administers medications and treatments under the supervision of a Registered Nurse in accordance with facility policy.
Takes vital signs such as respiration, temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate and reports changes in patient conditions. Practices ethically and professionally within their scope and advocates for patients. Maintains clinical competence specific to their care area, including required education within the stated timeframe. Coordinates care with the interdisciplinary team. Documents appropriately and thoroughly in the electronic medical record system.
Keeps other nursing personnel and the responsible RN informed regarding changes in the condition of patients or other pertinent observations. Every other weekend and holiday is required. May be required to float to other units as staffing permits. May be needed to drop to a CNA position as staffing needs arise. Staffing ratios for this shift are 2 LPNs to 3-4 CNAs for 40 residents.
Typical orientation period will be 1 day on the assigned unit. Scrubs of any color may be worn by the employee.
