Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nursing Quality Specialist Part Time (RN) Board Certification Req - LOH. In this role, the successful candidate supports Departments of Nursing quality and safety programs. Provides quality improvement facilitation and support for nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams undertaking improvement initiatives. Assists Director of Nursing Quality with assessment of the learning needs of nursing staff as they pertain to quality and performance improvement;
assists with the provision of education and mentoring in the methods and continuous quality improvement. Participates in monitoring regulatory compliance, identifies opportunities for improvement, and assists patient care units with development and implementation of improvement strategies. Assists with benchmarking activities with the National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI), University Health system Consortium (UHC) and other organizations as appropriate.

- Identifies factors and participates in programs to promote satisfaction of patients, families and other disciplines. Stays abreast of trends and issues pertaining to nursing work environments and the Departments of Nursing strategic plan (AONL-Knowledge of the Health Care Environment)
- Coordination in the annual evaluation of the Nursing quality and performance improvement plan. Uses sound methodology in analyzing data, evaluating outcomes and driving excellence. Maintains clinical and functional expertise (AONL-Professionalism, Knowledge of the Health Care Environment)
- Supports evidence-based practice by assisting nursing staff in development of process standards that are consistent with evidence-based literature, regulatory requirements, and pertinent professional nursing standards (AONL-Leader Within)
- Collaborates and supports the Director of Nursing Quality in the provision of education to various levels of nursing staff in the use of performance improvement methodologies applicable to nursing quality. Establishes collaborative relationships with nursing staff, leadership, medical staff, and other administrative staff (AONL-Communication & Relationship Management)
- Collaborates with nursing leadership in development of presentations, reports and publication of quality and safety program outcomes. Provides support for quality improvement teams including arranging meetings, providing minutes, managing project timelines, and preparing reports (AONL-Business Skills & Principles)
- Supports the organizations journey toward achieving and maintaining Magnet Recognition. Leading quality improvement initiatives, collecting and analyzing data, collaborating with nursing leadership to meet the empirical outcomes and standards required by the Magnet framework (AONL-Leader Within)
- Supports unit-based leadership by developing tools to monitor outcomes at the unit level and develop quality initiatives that reflect their specialty that achieve evidence-based practice (AONL-Professionalism, Knowledge of the Health Care Environment)
- Reviews and evaluates occurrences related to nursing care reported through the electronic occurrence system related to nursing care. Assists with review and development of interdisciplinary and interdepartmental structure standards, process and outcome standards in conjunction with other nursing leadership. Participates in RCAs, FMEAs, ACAs and assists in implementation and monitoring of corrective action plan (AONL-Leader Within)
- Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in New York State
- Master's degree in nursing
- If an experienced NQS must be Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or Professional Patient Safety (CPPS) or Specialty Nursing Board Certified
- Ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion to address patient/family satisfaction and quality indicators
- Evidence of excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, organization, critical thinking, problem solving, and leadership skills
- Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association
- Three to five years of clinical experience in a specialty area, or combination of staff nurse/leadership experience in the specialty area
