What you’ll doThe Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Acute Care under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, provides direct and indirect patient care with direction by a Registered Professional Nurse or Physician. The LPN functions as part of the interdisciplinary health care team.
- Provides direct and indirect nursing care individualized to patients’ needs.
- Collects and records relevant patient health data accurately.
- Evaluates health data to identify patient problems.
- Implements and documents specified interventions.
- Identifies and reports deviations from expected patient outcomes.
- Provides patients and families with established patient education materials and the patient’s plan of care per unit guidelines as measured by direct supervisory observation.
- Performs procedures according to medical orders and nursing standards with appropriate supervision as permitted by law and hospital policy, as measured by direct supervisory observation.
- Documents appropriately as measured by direct supervisory observation and random record review.
- Adheres to approved, research-based practice standards.
- Directs and supervises patient care provided by support personnel according to department guidelines.
- Demonstrates flexibility and collaboration in solving care problems.
- Uses material and other resources prudently.
- Advocates for patients to ensure that care preserves and protects the patient’s autonomy, dignity and rights.
- Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity, as measured by no significant, substantiated patient or peer complaints received by the manager/supervisor.
- Advocates for patient needs.
- Acts on behalf of patients in an ethical manner.
- Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in his or her area of practice.
- Completes required unit credentialing according to departmental policy.
- Participates in 4-8 hours of educational activity related to job function annually and provides documented evidence of attendance or activity to supervisor.
- Practices within the New York State-defined LPN scope of practice.
- Performs other duties as requested and observed by supervisor or manager.
- Graduation from a Practical Nursing program, required
- Previous healthcare experience, preferred
- Current NYS licensure as a Practical Nurse or valid interim permit, required
- BLS certification within 6 months of hire, required
