OverviewThe Assistant Patient Care Director (or Assistant Manager, Clinical Services, or Assistant Nurse Manager) supports the oversight of clinical and operational functions of patients and staff in the operating rooms. The role acts as a change facilitator, partnering with the Patient Care Director, Medical and Surgical teams, and Professional Development team to set goals aligned with HSS strategic initiatives. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and monitoring unit activities, fiscal stewardship of the unit, and evaluating performance while creating an environment where staff and patients can reach their full potential.
StaffDevelopment
- Collaborate with the PCD to facilitate staff orientation, development, and clinical competencies.
- Assist with orientation coordination for new hires and training.
- Serve as a resource to coordinate clinical activities, ensuring the highest level of patient care, patient safety, interdisciplinary communication, staff satisfaction, and resource utilization.
- Facilitate staff involvement in hospital-wide committees.
- Review policies and procedures to support clinical practices.
- Collaborate with the team to coordinate the plan of care for all complex patients.
- Actively engage in council membership.
- Complete and monitor NDNQI Audits in collaboration with clinicians.
- Complete and monitor Nursing Tracer and Environmental Tracer unit audits.
- Support all clinical operations of the unit as needed (e.g., charge nurse, clinical assignments).
- Utilize the performance improvement model (Plan-Do-Study-Act) to improve patient outcomes.
- Lead one unit project per year with clinical staff.
- Facilitate coordination and collaboration between all units to improve patient and staff experience and workflow processes.
- Partner with the Patient Care Directors on clinical practice, staff communication, time utilization, change facilitation, and staff assignments.
- Develop quality management and performance improvement activities.
- Address areas of weakness and develop plans for improvement.
- Partner with the Patient Care Director on performance management and evaluations.
- Implement operational policies and procedures to ensure operational efficiency.
- Understand Magnet nursing principles and culture; drive Magnet initiatives.
- Conduct employee rounding.
- Coordinate with all levels of the leadership team to support staffing for all areas.
- Maintain cultural and diversity appreciation when interacting with patients and their families, visitors, and co-workers.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve workflow and enhance patient experience.
- Cover Patient Care Directors in their absence.
- Cover Nursing Coordinator role if needed.
- Required:
Bachelors in Nursing / BSN. - Required:
Masters (must be currently enrolled in a Masters program). - Required:
Registered Nurse NYS License, AHA BLS. - Required:
Certification in CNOR or Orthopedics recognized by ANCC.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong customer service orientation.
Strong clinical knowledge and experience.
