Position Summary

Per Diem Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Non Invasive Cardiology.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive nursing care, coordinate care plans, diagnose illnesses, perform therapeutic, corrective, and prescriptive measures, and work collaboratively under a collaborative practice agreement with a physician.

• Plan and organize care to meet individual patient needs and ensure appropriate clinical resource utilization per protocols.
• Monitor cost effectiveness of the position, especially regarding efficiency and performance indicators.
• Assist in preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable.
• Collaborate with nursing and other disciplines in the development and implementation of clinical studies within the area of expertise.
• Use evidence‑based literature to advise and support appropriate practice changes within the designated service.
• Participate in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established protocols for quality and performance improvement.
• Serve as a clinical expert and resource for peer and health professional education.
• Maintain current expertise in the area of practice.
• Promote own professional growth and development in clinical and managerial roles.
• Consider needs and behaviors of specific patient age and cultural groups in all patient care.
• Evaluate treatment and care plans for effectiveness and modify per clinical standards and protocols.
• Practice as a member of allied health staff according to rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws.
• Prescribe medical equipment, therapy, and home health services per practice protocol.
• Prescribe inpatient and discharge medications according to state law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization.
• Collaborate with the attending physician, consulting physicians, and other disciplines to develop and implement care plans maximizing patient/family preference and enhancing quality, access, and cost‑efficiency.
• Formulate the plan of care with attending physician, patient, and family based on expected goals and length of stay.
• Order customary laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies per protocols, distinguishing normal/abnormal findings and following protocols for abnormal findings, possibly referring to consulting physicians.
• Perform complete health history, physical examination, and psychosocial assessment of patients.
• Function as a respectful member of the healthcare team.
• Participate in activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations of relevant agencies.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the organization’s service standards and incorporate them into responsibilities.
• Facilitate continuity of care across the continuum of services, including home care, other facilities, and appointments with MDs.
• Provide consultation on therapeutic regimens to the nursing staff responsible for patient care in the hospital setting.
• Collaborate with nursing leadership to ensure timely communication with staff.
• Work with attending physician to maintain timely and appropriate communication with families, house staff, other disciplines, and ancillary services.
• Participate in development and revision of interdisciplinary and nursing standards and patient education materials relevant to practice and expertise.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to develop and implement therapeutic care plans for groups of patients and ensure communication with families.

• Current registration as a Professional Nurse in New York and registration as a Nurse Practitioner in New York.
• Master’s Degree in Nursing.
• Certification required (as soon as feasible following graduation from NP graduate program) by ANCC or board certification from another specialty organization that certifies Nurse Practitioners in a clinical area of practice. ACLS, PALS, NRP Provider; neonatal resuscitation program, NALS per delineation of privileges.
