Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Rheumatology Office Practice in Manhattan. The successful candidate will provide, coordinate, and assure comprehensive nursing care using nursing processes and pertinent standards of care, diagnose illnesses and physical conditions, and perform therapeutic, corrective, and prescriptive measures for the designated inpatient or outpatient population within a collaborative practice agreement with a specific physician on the NYU Hospitals Center staff.

Job Responsibilities
  • Plan and organize care to meet individual patient needs and ensure appropriate clinical resource utilization per protocols and pathways.
  • Monitor and trend the cost effectiveness of the position related to service efficiency and performance indicators.
  • Assist in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable.
  • Collaborate with nursing and other disciplines in the development and implementation of clinical studies.
  • Use evidence-based health care literature to support practice changes within the service.
  • Participate in development and monitoring of patient outcomes for quality and performance improvement.
  • Serve as a clinical expert and resource for education of peers and health professionals.
  • Maintain current expertise in area of practice and promote professional growth in clinical and managerial roles.
  • Consider the needs and behaviors of specific patient age and cultural groups in all care.
  • Evaluate treatment and health care plans for effectiveness and modify per clinical standards and protocols.
  • Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff rules and bylaws.
  • Prescribe medical equipment, devices, therapy, and home health services per practice protocol; prescribe inpatient and discharge medications per New York State law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization.
  • Collaborate with the attending physician and other disciplines to develop and implement an appropriate plan of care that aligns with patient/family preferences and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Formulate the plan of care with the attending physician, patient, and family based on expected goals and length of stay.
  • Order laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies per practice protocols and follow up on abnormal findings, including referrals as needed.
  • Perform complete health history, physical examination, and psychosocial assessment within the designated practice unit.
  • Participate in professional nursing standards and regulations, and collaborate with outside agencies as required.
  • Facilitate continuity of care across the continuum of services, including home care and timely communication with staff and family members.
  • Provide consultation about the therapeutic regimen to nursing staff responsible for patient care in the hospital setting.
  • Work with nursing leadership and the interdisciplinary team to ensure timely communication with family members and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to development and revision of interdisciplinary and nursing standards and patient/family education materials as relevant to the scope of practice.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensure:
    Current registration as Professional Nurse in New York and Nurse Practitioner registration in New York.
  • Education:

    Master’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Certification: ANCC certification or board certification from a recognized specialty organization certifying Nurse Practitioners in a clinical area of practice.
  • Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association.
Required Licenses

Registered Nurse License - NYS;
Nurse Practitioner - NYS;
Basic Life Support Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS, PALS) or Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) may be required based on privileges; at least five years of clinical nursing practice in the served patient population. Prior nurse practitioner experience is preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, problem solving, leadership, and collaboration within an interdisciplinary team. Physical stamina and dexterity to perform responsibilities. Membership in professional specialty organizations is desirable.
