Monitor daily sterilization activities of the Brooklyn office, within guidelines, including the sterilization of instrument cassettes, bur blocks, endofile boxes, and handpieces. Examine clinical handpieces to ensure they are properly maintained after each use (purging and lubrication of each unit) and ensure compliance with all workflow and infection control policies and procedures. Periodically inspect quality of instrument cassettes and report any deficiencies to the Director.
Track dental instruments through all phases of the cleaning and sterilization process by utilizing scanning technology. Sterilize instruments, operate autoclave, and perform routine maintenance on a variety of simple dental equipment (disassemble, clean, reassemble, store). Maintain inventory, assist with ordering supplies, stock medical disposable goods in storage areas, and ensure the Brooklyn office has all necessary materials. Answer telephones; respond to requests from internal and external customers.
Identify and execute all tasks related to the daily sterilization process as outlined in the Overview. Maintain accurate records and communicate any instrument deficiencies. Ensure compliance with infection control standards and department protocols. Operate and maintain sterilization equipment and support other central services.
QualificationsRequired
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Experience: 3+ years experience including maintaining and operating all pieces of automated and mechanical equipment used in the processing areas (e.g., washer/decontaminator, sterilizer, cart washer, etc.) of Central Service.
Preferred Experience: Experience with dental instrumentation.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interpret policies and procedures and to follow written instructions. Ability to perform detailed work and basic mathematical calculations. Must have a thorough knowledge of cleaning procedures, disinfection and sterilization protocols, maintenance, disassembly and assembly of dental equipment, and regulatory standards. Ability to operate basic office equipment (e.g., personal computer, photocopier, etc.).
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Current Central Service certification by an accredited agency (IAHCSMM or CBSPD). Operational knowledge of standard dental instrumentation, prostheses, instruments, and equipment. Certification in Healthcare Leadership (CHL) education and/or the concepts. Knowledge of Instrument Tracking system.
Pay and BenefitsIn compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is USD $35.958. This rate is based on bargaining unit contracts. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
