The Registered Nurse (RN) provides assessment, treatment, emergency care, and case management of student health conditions as part of the overall Health and Wellness Program in accordance with the Job Corps Federal Regulations, the (PRH) Policy and Requirements Handbook, and federal and state laws related to professional scope of practice with a general emphasis on helping students overcome barriers to employability.
The RN may serve as the acting Health and Wellness Manager (short or long term) in the absence of the Health and Wellness Manager.

- Securely safeguards all records within the scope of the Center’s protocols and procedures.
- Documents all procedures, counseling, and education provided to students accurately and timely.
- Documents and submits forms and correspondence to local, state, and federal agencies to meet all requirements of the program.
- Educates students about Health Services.
- Facilitates staff training on topics related to adolescent growth and development.
- Follows infection control procedures.
- Assists with maintaining equipment and supplies.
- Adheres to the departmental budget.
- Provides on‑call support as required.
- Supervises Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse (LVN/LPN) in accordance with state‑specific nurse practice act.
- Assists HWM with Applicant File Review.
- Conducts monthly medication reviews for students on long‑term prescribed medications with the Center Physician and CMHC as appropriate.
- Conducts a cursory health evaluation of new students.
- Performs phlebotomy procedures and collects specimens as required by National Job Corps Protocol.
- Performs CLIA‑waived testing as appropriate.
- Administers medication, monitors, and follows up to observe students.
- Reports on adverse reactions to medication to the Health and Wellness Manager.
- Assists with scheduling and follow‑up of medical appointments on Center and community appointments.
- Performs routine medical tasks within the scope of license and documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs and Student Health Records.
- Coordinates Chronic Care Management Plans for students with chronic illnesses.
- Completes nursing assessment and triage of students with acute illnesses and concerns; implements provider orders.
- Performs physical and emotional wellness assessments.
- Establishes individualized student health and wellness plans according to protocol outlined in the center’s Health Standing Orders.
- Works closely with counselors, residential staff, and medical trade instructors to provide wellness education to students.
- Serves as Co‑Disability Coordinator in the absence of the HWM, managing medical accommodations for students.
- Orders and maintains records on dispensing, inventory, and disposal of medical and dental supplies and pharmaceuticals.
- Administers immunizations as required.
- Supports the Wellness Committee and activities.
- Supports the SART committee and activities.
- Supports Healthy Eating Active Lifestyles (HEALS) committee and activities.
- Educates staff and students (public speaking).
- Attends required staff training sessions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Active, unrestricted license to practice in the state where the Center is located.
- One year nursing experience, plus Job Corps experience desirable.
- Sound nursing techniques.
- Ability to relate effectively to student population.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to carry out instructions without constant supervision.
- Must maintain CPR certification.
