Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an APP Manager (NP or PA) in the Hematology‑Oncology Office Practice on Staten Island. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the provision, coordination, and assurance of comprehensive health care using advanced practice nursing processes and pertinent standards of care. The applicant will diagnose illnesses and physical conditions, perform diagnostic, therapeutic, corrective, and prescriptive measures, and manage a team of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants to optimize service line activities while fostering a positive work environment.

The role also serves as liaison to nursing, care management, hospital administration, and other hospital departments, and represents the advanced practice nurses & physician assistants department to accrediting bodies.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform all relevant clinical functions based on current evidence, including complete health history, physical examination, and psychosocial assessment within the designated practice.
  • Collaborate with the practice team, attending physicians, house staff, consulting physicians, and other disciplines to develop, implement, and modify care plans that maximize patient/family satisfaction and enhance quality, access, and cost outcomes.
  • Order laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies as indicated, interpret findings, and follow protocols for abnormal results, including adjustments to the care plan or discussion with attendings and house staff.
  • Prescribe medications and medical equipment per NYS law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization; facilitate therapy and home health services as per practice protocol and evaluate patient responses to treatment.
  • Coordinate discharge planning with the interdisciplinary team, patient, and family to assure timely and safe discharge.
  • Act as a professional role model across all staff levels, incorporating expertise and related experience into patient care and considering the needs of specific patient age and cultural groups.
  • Evaluate advanced practice activities that contribute to patient outcomes and add value to clinical care; use practice‑based evidence to identify and implement improvements.
  • Participate in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established practice protocols for quality and performance improvement; advise on evidence‑based practice changes within the service.
  • Engage in Service Line Quality and Performance Improvement meetings and Advance Practice Nursing meetings and committees.
  • Assist in preparing, implementing, and evaluating research protocols when applicable; monitor cost effectiveness of the position relative to efficiency and performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Advanced Practice Nurses and Physician Assistants and the division chief in recruitment, retention, and HR management of nurse practitioners and physician assistants; guide and monitor performance, scheduling, and coordination of services.
  • Facilitate onboarding, orientation, and ongoing professional development of nurse practitioners and physician assistants; coordinate clinical activities to meet safety and quality measures and provide leadership and team building.
  • Develop and maintain policies, standards, and processes for all aspects of patient care; set departmental goals with division chief and other key personnel; participate in relevant hospital‑wide committees.
  • Conduct performance appraisals of nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and evaluate fellows, residents, and interns as needed.
  • Contribute to nursing knowledge through writing, research, and presentations; educate patients and families to promote healthy adjustment to new or changed outcomes.
  • Serve as preceptor to graduate students in the Nurse Practitioner Program and mentor staff nurses.
  • Develop and revise interdisciplinary and nursing standards and patient/family education materials; collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless transitions of care.
