NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility includes the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women’s imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated as a Primary Stroke Center with 24/7 neurologist coverage. The facility also operates outpatient sites including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Aide - SICU - Full Time, Nights. Under the supervision of the registered nurse, the successful candidate performs routine service duties and basic nursing procedures to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients. Maintains patient and service rooms in a clean and orderly condition. Assists with the preparation of the room and equipment for diagnostic procedures.

Participates in the orientation process of new employees.

• Deliver basic nursing care to provide for the care and comfort needs of the patient.
• Respond to patient call lights promptly and relay information to appropriate nursing personnel.
• Observe the patient and report any reaction or change in condition to the nurse in a timely manner.
• Assist the patient in activities of daily living, including nourishment, ambulation, personal hygiene and toileting.
• Adapt care delivery to meet the individual needs of the patient.
• Provide direct nursing care by performing tasks such as vital signs, baths, skin care, catheter care, enemas, and specimen collection in compliance with policy/procedure.
• Demonstrate proper turning, positioning and transferring techniques during patient care.
• Distribute patient nourishment, assist with feeding as indicated, and collect trays at the end of meals.
• Estimate and record food/fluid consumed using flow sheets, intake and output records, or Calorie Count Sheet.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organized patient environment; monitor service rooms and prepare equipment to be returned to Central Service.
• Identify patients prior to care delivery by checking identification armband; recognize safety hazards and act promptly.
• Complete patient rounds regularly to monitor patient safety; use proper body mechanics during transfers or lifting of patients or equipment.
• Comply with Falls Prevention Program measures and assist with workload as needed across units.
• Support care assignments and collaborate with staff on units and in other departments; engage with Nurse Manager and Nursing Administrative Supervisor to address issues.
• Participate in the evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices and support measures to improve practice.
• Attend and participate in hospital educational programs to maintain competence; comply with staff meeting attendance requirements.

• High School Diploma or GED
• BLS certification (AHA) and first aid training
• De-escalation training provided on the job
• Ability to read and write at an elementary school level to understand the patient’s plan of care and to record data in the medical record
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic to take and record patient weight, vital signs, and intake & output
• Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and families, with recognition of cultural diversity
• Basic analytical skills to gather data, perform comparisons, interpret and report outcomes
• Ability to manage and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
• Excellent customer service skills

Salary information:
The salary range for the role is $51,597.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
