Purpose and Scope

The professional registered nurse Outpatient RN CAP 1 is an entry‑level designation within the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). The role involves the provision and coordination of clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation for an assigned group of patients. The RN may delegate tasks to direct patient‑care staff (RNs, LVN/LPNs, Patient Care Technicians) and participates in decision‑making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality‑improvement activities that enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations as part of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) health‑care team.

Principal

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor, or other Registered Nurses.
  • Collect and analyze patient data pre‑, during, and post‑hemodialysis treatment, document in the medical record, adjust the treatment plan as indicated, and notify the Team Leader, Charge Nurse, Supervisor, or Physician as needed.
  • Assess, collaborate, and document patient/family learning needs; provide initial and ongoing education.
  • Direct and provide, in collaboration with direct and ancillary staff, all aspects of daily safe and effective hemodialysis delivery.
  • Administer medications as prescribed or per approved algorithms, documenting justification and effectiveness.
  • Initiate or assist with emergency response measures.
  • Serve as a resource for the health‑care team, participate in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned.
  • Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures; reschedule missed or insufficient collections.
  • Identify expected outcomes, document, and update the nursing assessment and plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options.
  • Complete required CAP training to advance.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Regular heavy lifting, moving of patients, and assistance with ambulation; assistance may be provided by equipment or coworkers.
  • Frequent, prolonged periods of standing and requirement to bend over.
  • Occasional movement of machines and equipment up to 200 lbs. and lifting chemical or water solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet.
  • Work environment characteristic of a health‑care facility with air‑conditioned temperature control and moderate noise levels.
  • Potential exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.
  • Desk work, computer work, interaction with patients, facility/hospital staff, and physicians.
  • Possible travel to training sites or other facilities; may be required to provide essential functions in other locations with similar demands.
Supervision
  • Assigned oversight of Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, LVNs, and RNs as a Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge.
  • Eligibility requires: completion of all FKC education and training for new employees, a minimum of 9 months RN experience, and a minimum of 3 months chronic/acute hemodialysis RN experience.
Education and Licensure
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current appropriate state licensure.
  • Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification.
  • Meet the practice requirements in the state of employment.
Experience and Required Skills
  • Entry‑level RN with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience.
  • Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience preferred.
Compensation

Hourly Rate: $35.00 - $60.00 (dependent on location and qualifications).
