Position Summary

The Ambulatory Care Nurse will support the coordination, integration, communication, implementation and evaluation of nursing practice and clinical policies and procedures in the ambulatory Medicine-Cardio setting. The role includes participation in site and organizational quality and performance improvement activities, systematic collection of patient health data, and collaboration with licensed providers to develop patient-centered plans of care that guide interventions to achieve expected outcomes.

The nurse provides comprehensive care including administration of treatments and medications, patient education, health counseling, wound care, preventive guidance, and support for symptom relief.

• Performs physical examinations and diagnostic tests as assigned
• Collects patient health history and documents information in the electronic health record
• Educates patients and families regarding test results and treatment plans
• Administers medications (including vaccinations and IV therapy), provides wound care, and conducts triage for clinical concerns
• Monitors patient responses to treatments and assists with anesthesia-related assessments as appropriate
• Collaborates with licensed providers to determine best treatment plans
• Directs and delegates tasks to licensed practical nurses, medical assistants and technicians to support patient flow
• Supports coordination of nursing practice and clinical policies; ensures compliance with patient safety initiatives
• Contributes to quality initiatives (e.g., care gap management, performance measures) and endorses evidence-based practice
• Participates in coordination of on-site activities to provide patient care in a healing, respectful environment
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary team and serves as a resource for staff and providers
• Engages in clinical inquiry and promotes evidence-based practice

• Maintains ongoing professional development and stays current with nursing knowledge and competencies
• Applies new knowledge to clinical practice and utilizes available resources for learning
• Mentors peers and upholds professional conduct and reporting obligations
• Delivers direct care including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
• Coordinates care with other health care providers to meet patient needs

• Collects and documents patient history and assessment data
• Performs onsite tests (e.g., point-of-care labs, EKG) and specimen collection per scope of practice
• Administers prescribed treatments and medications, and manages IV therapy and related procedures
• Maintains IV lines and manages related complications
• Provides triage and clinical decision-making within RN scope

• Manages clinical in-baskets and timely encounter closure
• Relays results and follows up with patients as directed by providers
• Performs triage for clinical concerns and escalates as needed
• Coordinates care for defined patient populations with a multidisciplinary plan

• Identifies health deviations and advocates for actions that support safe environments
• Collects and analyzes health data to determine status and nursing diagnoses
• Educates patients and families to support adjustment to health changes
• Develops patient-centered care plans and evaluates progress towards outcomes
• Promotes a positive patient experience in line with NYU Langone Health values

Current Registered Nurse license in New York. If hired after 9/1/25:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing required;
Associate Degree may be approved with conditions. Minimum of two years nursing experience in applicable area with enrollment in a BSN program to be completed within 2 years of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Registered Nurse License - NYS; BLS certification

ACLS certification; membership in pertinent professional organizations.
