Description:

The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities. The role includes the prevention of illness and injury, and the alleviation of suffering through diagnosis and treatment of human responses. The RN advocates for the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. This includes adherence to nursing policies and ethical standards.

The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care for a group of patients.
  • Serves as a primary nurse or accountable nurse when designated by unit assignment.
  • Considers safety, effectiveness, competency, cost, and impact in care delivery.
  • Educates patients and families in health promotion and disease management.
  • Utilizes pharmacology knowledge and administers medications safely.
  • Shares responsibility for productivity and resource utilization.
  • Complies with nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Actively participates in nursing governance and improvement initiatives.
  • Engages in professional development and completes mandatory education.
  • Integrates nursing research and current evidence into practice.
  • Provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
  • Performs duties related to Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator as assigned.
  • May assume additional responsibilities as needed.
