Join an established surgical service in Potsdam, New York, providing a combination of Surgical First Assist Operating Room coverage and Surgical Floor coverage. This ongoing PRN opportunity has specific stretches that need to be covered in December 2026.
The provider will work primarily with General Surgery, OB/GYN, and Orthopedic patients and will provide comprehensive care to acutely ill adult patients. Responsibilities include surgical first assisting, inpatient rounding, progress notes, orders, discharges, and consults.
Robotic surgical experience is required.

Ongoing PRN coverage, with specific December 2026 stretches requiring coverage
Specific Coverage Dates:
- December 14–18: 7:00 AM–5:00 PM
- December 18–21: 5:00 PM–7:00 AM
- December 28–30:
Three 12-hour shifts
Schedule:
- Weekday call: 7:00 AM–5:00 PM or 3:00 PM–11:00 PM
- Weeknight call: 5:00 PM–7:00 AM
- Weekend call:
Friday 5:00 PM–Monday 7:00 AM - Weekend rounding:
Saturday–Sunday, 8:00 AM–12:00 PM - Combination of Surgical First Assist OR time and Surgical Floor coverage

Clinical Responsibilities:
- Provide Surgical First Assist coverage in the Operating Room
- Assist surgeons during surgical procedures
- Work primarily with General Surgery, OB/GYN, and Orthopedic patients
- Assist with cauterizing wounds and vessels
- Pack sponges in body cavities as appropriate
- Position patients to maintain circulation and surgical access
- Place clamps and sutures
- Close skin with adhesives, sutures, or staples
- Apply direct pressure to veins and tissue
- Assist with suction, drainage, and irrigation
- Assist with hemostasis and control of bleeding
- Immobilize patients on the operating table
- Provide Surgical Floor coverage
- Assist with inpatient rounding
- Complete progress notes
- Manage patient orders
- Assist with discharges
- Manage and respond to consults
- Coordinate care with physicians, nursing, anesthesia, and other healthcare team members
- Provide care to acutely ill adult patients

- 1 Provider
- 1 Anesthesia provider in each procedure
- 1 NP
- 1 LPN

Requirements:
- Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
- Board Certified – Required
- Active New York State License – Required
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience – Required
- Robotic surgical experience – Required
- AHA BLS – Required
- ACLS – Required
- ATLS – Required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to provide Surgical First Assist coverage
- Ability to provide Surgical Floor coverage
