This position is a non-competitive Civil Service position.
General Statement Of DutiesUnder general supervision of a registered nurse, performs nursing services in the examination of school children; performs related duties as required.
Complexity Of DutiesThis is responsible work performed within the legal limits of the nursing profession.
Typical Duties- Assists in the performance of hearing and eye tests and daily check-up of students.
- Assists in rendering first aid to ill or injured students.
- Checks height and weight of students.
- May maintain student health records.
- Knowledge of basic practical nursing theory and techniques.
- Knowledge of common physical and mental illnesses and their obvious symptoms.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to maintain records and charts.
Successful completion of an acceptable program of practical nursing.
Training and ExperienceSuccessful completion of an acceptable program of practical nursing.
Necessary Special RequirementPossession of a current license, or the eligibility to be licensed, as a practical nurse by the State of New York.
