Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)
Under the direction of licensed nursing personnel, the Certified Nurse Assistant will perform direct and indirect resident care as defined by certification. The individual must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of patients served. Knowledge of principles of growth and development across the lifespan is essential. Ability to assess data reflective of patient status is required to identify and meet patient needs.
The Certified Nurse Assistant is responsible for meeting residents' Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as outlined in their plan of care. ADLs include hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence/catheter care, elimination/toileting needs, turning/positioning, and skin care. Documentation must be completed per protocol. Maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for residents is vital. This includes answering call lights and alarms promptly, providing safety mats and low beds, and maintaining cleanliness within the unit.
Behavior and fall prevention techniques will be utilized, along with appropriate monitoring for malfunctioning equipment. Documentation must be completed per protocol. Residents' nutritional needs will be addressed as per the plan of care. This includes meal delivery, tray preparation, and adaptive feeding techniques. Residents' preferences and choices should always be honored. Documentation must be completed per protocol. Rehabilitative needs for residents will also be met, including restorative and maintenance tasks as outlined in the care plan.
This involves range of motion, ambulation, transfers, proper body alignment, and use of assistive devices. Documentation must be completed per protocol. All resident rights, refusals, and concerns must be reported to the Charge and/or Supervising Nurse in a timely manner. Changes in residents' physical, emotional, and psychosocial statuses should be identified and reported promptly. Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens is anticipated, and required tasks may involve contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues.
