About This Role

The OBS Patient Teaching RN is responsible for educating obstetrical patients and their families about maternity services, breastfeeding techniques, baby care, self-care, and infant CPR. This role is ideal for a compassionate nurse with experience in maternal child health who enjoys teaching and supporting new parents.

• Location: New York, NY
• Facility: Lenox Hill Hospital
• Schedule: Full-Time, Night shift

• Conduct patient classes on post-discharge instructions, breastfeeding, baby care, infant behavior, and infant CPR.
• Develop daily class schedules in conjunction with the Head Nurse.
• Distribute class schedules to patients and invite them to attend.
• Provide bedside consultation for breastfeeding mothers.
• Review newborn screening specimen slips, assure completeness, log specimens, and prepare for mailing.
• Conduct tours of the Maternal Child Health department and inform prospective patients of maternity service routines.
• Perform direct patient care when assigned by nursing management.
• Participate in quality improvement projects, including continuing education presentations and data collection.
• Update policies, procedures, and standards as needed.
• Perform related duties as required.

• Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing;
  Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of three (3) years experience as a Staff Nurse in Maternal Child Health nursing.
• One (1) year concentrated experience in postpartum well-baby care within the past 2 years.

  Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
• Lactation consultant certification or active applicant for lactation consultant exam.
