Position Overview
A school in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a caring, responsible, and professional School Nurse to join its team. The School Nurse will be responsible for supporting the health and well-being of students throughout the school day and responding appropriately to medical needs as they arise.
Key Responsibilities- Provide basic nursing care to students during the school day.
- Assess students who become sick or injured and determine appropriate next steps.
- Administer medications in accordance with physician orders, parental authorization, and school policies.
- Provide first aid and respond to medical situations as needed.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
- Communicate with parents or guardians regarding student health concerns when appropriate.
- Monitor students with allergies, asthma, diabetes, and other documented medical needs.
- Maintain and organize medications, first-aid supplies, and nursing office materials.
- Assist with health screenings and required school health documentation.
- Follow established health, safety, confidentiality, and emergency procedures.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and healthcare providers as appropriate.
- Help promote a safe and healthy school environment.
- Previous nursing experience required.
- School, pediatric, family medicine, or related nursing experience preferred.
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred.
- Strong assessment and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Caring, patient, responsible, and dependable.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to respond calmly and professionally to medical situations.
- Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding student health information.
