Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse Specialist, Clinical Educator supports the development and performance of the nursing team across all clinical sites. This position assists with recruitment, orientation, and ongoing competency assessment of nursing staff to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. In addition to educator responsibilities, the RN Specialist also functions as a Registered Nurse as needed to support clinical operations.

Main Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Onboarding
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership and Human Resources to support recruitment efforts for nursing positions.
  • Participate in the interview and selection process by providing input on clinical qualifications and role alignment.
  • Support the onboarding process by coordinating training schedules, competency evaluations, and mentorship assignments.
Clinical Education & Training
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate clinical training sessions for nursing staff based on identified needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop educational materials, procedure guides, and competency checklists to support continuous learning and standardization of care.
  • Facilitate skill-building workshops, in-service trainings, and continuing education programs in collaboration with nursing leadership.
  • Maintain current knowledge of clinical best practices and disseminate updates to nursing staff.
  • Provide direct patient care and perform RN duties as needed to support clinical operations and ensure adequate coverage.
Competency & Performance Monitoring
  • Conduct regular competency assessments and observations of nursing staff to ensure adherence to established protocols and standards.
  • Track completion of mandatory training, certifications, and continuing education requirements.
  • Identify areas for improvement and provide feedback, coaching, or additional training as needed.
  • Participate in annual reviews of clinical procedures and assist with updating clinical policies and protocols.
Employee Health
  • Support employee health initiatives, including vaccinations, health screenings, and exposure follow-up.
  • Conduct and document annual fit testing for clinical staff in compliance with OSHA and infection control standards.
Quality Improvement
  • Partner with nursing leadership to evaluate training outcomes, staff performance, and departmental needs.
  • Support compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements related to nursing education and performance.
Other Duties
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Education:
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing is required.
  • Master’s degree in nursing is preferred.
  • Certification or diploma from an accredited nursing program.
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years in a healthcare or customer service setting, acting as a subject matter expert and operating independently required.
  • A valid government-issued photo identification document is required.
  • Current CPR certification through a HRSA accepted agency is required (can be provided upon employment).
  • A current, unrestricted, NYS Registered Nurse license is required.
  • Completion of continuing education in accordance to NYS licensing renewal and privileging requirements.
  • Proficient in supporting care coordination and applying clinical protocols.
  • Leads improvement of techniques and practices from data results.
  • Serves as point of contact or trainer for staff developing skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to anticipate needs and identify process gaps.
