Position: Patient Care Director Emergency Department -New Jersey
Location: New York

Patient Care Director
- Emergency Department (ED)

Responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and support of the Emergency Department nursing team to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care for patients across the lifespan. Oversees the daily operations of the Emergency Department, ensuring excellence in clinical outcomes, patient experience, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.

Maintains evidence-based nursing practices and promotes a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous quality improvement. Provides 24-hour operational and administrative oversight of the Emergency Department, including staffing, scheduling, patient throughput, resource utilization, and departmental performance.

Collaborates with physicians, ancillary departments, and hospital leadership to optimize patient flow, reduce wait times, improve emergency department throughput, and facilitate timely admissions, transfers, and discharges. Monitors key performance indicators, including patient satisfaction, quality metrics, and safety outcomes, and develops action plans to drive continuous improvement.

Leads process improvement initiatives, supports regulatory and accreditation readiness, and fosters a positive work environment that promotes employee engagement, professional development, and exceptional patient care.

  • Provides 24-hour operational leadership for the Emergency Department, ensuring safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Oversees daily department operations, including staffing, scheduling, patient flow, resource utilization, and throughput.
  • Leads, mentors, and develops Emergency Department nursing staff while fostering teamwork, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Promotes evidence-based practice, patient safety, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitors quality, patient experience, operational, and throughput metrics, implementing action plans to improve performance.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness planning, disaster response, and mass casualty drills.
  • Maintains effective communication with patients, families, physicians, staff, and leadership, addressing concerns and resolving operational issues.
  • Demonstrates sound fiscal stewardship through responsible staffing, budgeting, and resource management.
  • Serves as a clinical and operational resource for staff, supporting problem-solving, conflict resolution, and efficient departmental operations.
  • May serve as Administrative House Supervisor on a rotating basis, providing hospital-wide operational oversight as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Baccalaureate degree (BSN) required. Preferred Master's degree or in school for Master's degree.

EXPERIENCE: Three
- Five years clinical experience and management experience preferred.

LICENSURE/

QUALIFICATIONS:

Current license to practice professional nursing in N.J.CPR certification as per hospital policy. IV Certification as per hospital policy.

Completion of arrhythmia course ACLS.

WORKING CONDITIONS/HAZARDS: Exposure to communicable diseases, blood and blood products, illness, confused and/or combative patients, hazardous chemicals, stressful situations, X-rays and fluoroscopy, sharp instruments and needles, and electricity.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Standing, Walking, Lifting;
Occasionally must reach above head, carry medium to light equipment, and stoop.
