Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner; PT

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner serves as a core member of Pratt Institute's new Integrated Student Health Center team, which combines medical and mental health services. This position is open only to a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), reflecting a commitment to flexible, high-quality, and evidence-based mental healthcare.

The Provider will deliver high-quality, culturally sensitive psychiatric care to a diverse and creative college student population, with a strong emphasis on integration and collaboration with primary care providers and counseling staff. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in young adult mental health and be enthusiastic about working within a holistic, coordinated-care model typical of a college setting.

• Evaluation & Diagnosis:
  Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including clinical interviews and history-taking, for students presenting with a wide range of mental health concerns (e.g., anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, substance use issues, eating disorders). Diagnose mental health disorders using the DSM-5/ICD-10.
• Treatment Planning & Management:
  In collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans. Provide psychopharmacological management, including prescribing, monitoring, and adjusting medications.
• Coordination of Care:
  Collaborate directly with clinical staff within the Student Wellness Center to ensure seamless and holistic patient care.
• Consultation:
  Provide high-level psychiatric consultation, support, and intervention during urgent and emergent student mental health crises, including risk assessment, safety planning, and facilitation of appropriate disposition (e.g., hospitalization or higher level of care referral).
• Documentation:
  Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records for all clinical encounters, including assessments, treatment plans, prescriptions, and progress notes, using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system in compliance with HIPAA and institutional standards.

• Interdisciplinary Consultation:
  Serve as the primary clinical psychiatric resource for the Student Wellness Center and counseling services staff, offering consultation on complex student cases, treatment options, and standards of psychiatric care.

  Collaboration:
  
  Partner with the Institute's Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) regarding students with complex medical/psychiatric needs or those requiring a higher level of care.
• Policy Development:
  Contribute expertise to the establishment of departmental policy regarding psychiatric diagnosis, treatment, referral, confidentiality, and quality improvement (QI) studies.
• Psycho-education:
  Consult as needed in wellness initiatives, workshops, and outreach efforts in collaboration with Health Promotion and other campus partners to educate the student body on mental health, self-care, and resilience-building.

Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing with a specialization as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) from an accredited program.

Licensure:
Current, unrestricted Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York AND a current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner (NP) license with prescriptive privileges (DEA) in the State of New York.

Board Certification:
National certification as a PMHNP (ANCC/AANP-certified). Other:

• Clinical
  
  Experience:
  
  Minimum of three (3) years of full-time, post-licensure clinical experience.
• Experience working in a college counseling setting or in a community mental health center is strongly preferred.
• Clinical Specializations:
  Demonstrated expertise, knowledge, and professional interest in one or more areas relevant to a diverse college population, such as: trauma/sexual assault, substance use/harm reduction, men's mental health, LGBTQ+ issues, identity development, or the unique needs of artists/designers.
