Seasonal Forest Technician

Land Vest is looking for an energetic, entrepreneurial, and dedicated individual for Seasonal Forest Technician position to serve our clients in New York. The Seasonal Forest Technician position is an entry-level forest technician position with a focus on inventory/cruising work and field work associated with harvest operations. In the field training and supervision will be provided.

The position will be based in the Adirondack region, with administrative support from our Lowville office and across the New York region. Occasional overnight and multi-night travel in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast (PA, NY, VT, NH, & ME) will also be necessary (lodging and meals provided) with ongoing inventory projects.

Land Vest has over 50 years of experience in providing industry-leading consulting forestry services to its diverse clientele. Our staff provides direction and guidance to always look ahead, use the most advanced forest science and bring about the finest long-term stewardship of our client’s forest resources as we work to meet their objectives of ownership. The staff consult on properties of varying sizes, timber types and varied ownership objectives.

• Inventory: Collecting field data, following Land Vest cruise protocols.
• Operations: Assist with field work related to harvest unit layout, road construction and maintenance planning, timber marking, inspection of active harvest and road operations, closeout activities, and GPS data collection
• Other Field Work: Boundary work and other assigned field tasks.
• Other: We are active in certification programs. Land Vest is a Group Certified manager under FSC® certificate C120428 covering over +/- 100,000 acres. Successful candidates will be trained to implement Land Vest’s Operations Manual and Practices and Protocols that comply with certification and our company standards.

• Forestry related course work. Current students are encouraged to apply.
• Strong communication skills - verbal and written.
• Ability to solve problems and having a strong attention to detail are essential to this position.
• Ability to work with a broad variety of internal staff and external clients and colleagues.
• Must be willing to work strenuous days, occasional weekends, outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
• A base knowledge of New York tree species.
• Familiar with computer applications (MS Office & ArcGIS ideally), and with GPS units &/or digital data recording units and the collection and use of GPS data.
• Reliable and woods ready 4WD vehicle (Transportation may be available).

$18-21 per hour depending on experience and skills demonstrated.

Expense and mileage reimbursement.
