Job DetailsCrops/commodities include, but are not limited to, asparagus, cucurbits, sweet corn, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, Romanesco, hops, parsley, herbs. This is hard, strenuous labor, under cold, wet conditions in the spring, and extreme heat and humidity in the summer. Workers will use hand tools and drive/control equipment to support agricultural activities such as tilling soil, planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops. Work may involve planting roots, seeds and bulbs, spreading plastic or other ground coverings, weed control, transplanting, staking, tying, trellising, pruning, setting poles and wires for vine plants, picking and packing crops, and other field activities.
Care must be taken to prevent damaging produce and plants. Plant, cultivate and harvest fruits and vegetables for fresh-market and/or processing.
- Operate and maintain equipment and tools used in farming activities, including tilling, planting, cultivating, and harvesting.
- Perform fieldwork tasks such as planting roots, seeds, bulbs; transplanting; weeding; staking, tying, trellising; pruning; setting poles and wires; and harvesting crops.
- Handle packing, grading, and basic processing tasks such as sizing, sorting, and field packing of product.
- Apply pesticides, fertilizers, and crop protectants in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Place irrigation pipes and fittings; install/maintain irrigation systems and water lines; dig and maintain ditches; install and remove levee gates.
- Ensure safety and quality by following USDA GAP certification standards (must be trained or to be trained) and abiding by those standards; non-compliance may be grounds for dismissal.
- Operate and maintain equipment related to hop production, including propagation, planting rhizomes, potting, greenhouse work, and field preparation; manage vines, bines, and drip irrigation components; and assist with harvest operations for hops.
- Move, repair, and maintain farm structures and equipment as needed, including irrigation components, poles, strings, and trellises.
- Follow safety procedures to prevent damage to crops and equipment; work in a physically demanding environment with exposure to extreme temperatures.
Vaccination or medical requirements are not specified here; all tasks are subject to safety, health, and regulatory guidelines applicable to seasonal agricultural work.
Requirements- 2 months of verifiable agricultural experience, preferably on a vegetable farm.
- Workers are subject to random drug testing post hire at no cost to the employee.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures.
- Lifting requirement of 60 lbs.
- Repetitive movements, extensive pushing/pulling, walking, frequent stooping.
