Location: AtwellBiology Field Technician (Seasonal Temporary) Overview
Atwell is currently seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Biological Field Technicians for a seasonal temporary position. The full‑time role will commence as soon as possible and extend through March 2027 or beyond (depending on project). As a Biological Field Technician, you will play a crucial role in implementing a post‑construction mortality monitoring program at an operational wind facility.
Some of these locations include but are not limited to:
Arizona, Indiana, Iowa, Texas, Colorado, or Wyoming. This position will be for the area east of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Responsibilities
Conduct post‑construction mortality monitoring beneath operating wind turbines.Identify bird and bat carcasses discovered on‑site.Accurately collect data on all bird and bat fatalities.Conduct bias trials, including searcher efficiency and carcass persistence trials.Work in varied outdoor conditions, including inclement weather and uneven terrain.Drive and navigate using a 4WD vehicle in off‑road or seasonal road conditions.Use a compass, GPS device, range finder, iPad, and digital cameras during fieldwork.Adhere to safety protocols, including defensive driving and facility‑specific guidelines.Follow all Atwell safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.Demonstrate good judgment to work safely and efficiently.Additional related tasks may be assigned.Key Benefits

Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, wildlife management, wildlife biology, or equivalent.Experience with or interest in bats and/or birds is preferred; enthusiastic workers are encouraged to apply.Strong bat and bird identification skills are a plus, but not required.Use a variety of programs to complete tasks including Microsoft Teams, Survey
123, and ESRI Field Maps.Detail‑oriented with the ability to work independently, follow standardized protocols, and maintain a positive attitude.Effective and professional communication with supervisors, project managers, biologists, technicians, clients, and landowners.Must have the ability to walk long distances in variable conditions (e.g., extreme heat/cold, high winds, uneven terrain).- Work solo in the field under inclement weather in the physically challenging and harsh conditions for long days. Walk up to 12 miles per day over rough terrain.
Must be comfortable with typical hazards of an outdoors environment (e.g., hazardous wildlife, biting insects, sharp vegetation).Must hold a current driver’s license in good standing.Please note this is a temporary position and does not include benefits. If this position becomes full‑time, benefits would then be provided.
Pay Range: $20 - $24 USD
