New Generation Farmers Market – Cattaraugus, NY

New Generation Farmers Market is a growing, diversified farm and farm-to-table business in Cattaraugus, NY. We grow a variety of vegetables, herbs and flowers using natural growing practices, while also raising livestock including cattle, sheep and draft horses.

We are looking for a full-time Farm & Garden Production Specialist whose primary focus will be the production and care of our vegetables, flowers and plants
, including both greenhouse and outdoor production.

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys growing plants, working outdoors and being part of a small farm team. We start our crops from seed and are looking for someone with knowledge of vegetable and flower production who is willing to learn, work independently and contribute to the overall operation of the farm.

• Start vegetables, flowers and herbs from seed
• Manage greenhouse production from seeding through transplanting
• Prepare and maintain garden beds and growing areas
• Plant, transplant, weed, cultivate and maintain crops
• Care for flower crops from seed through harvest
• Monitor plants for pests, disease and other growing concerns
• Water and fertilize crops as needed
• Assist with natural and sustainable growing practices
• Harvest, wash, sort and prepare produce and flowers for sale
• Assist with crop planning, succession planting and harvest scheduling
• Maintain clean and organized greenhouse and garden areas
• Maintain and organize gardening tools, equipment and supplies
• Prepare plants, produce and flowers for the farm market and farmers markets

New Generation Farmers Market is a diversified farm, and we all help each other wherever needed.

While the primary focus of this position is vegetable and flower production, the successful candidate must be willing to assist with other areas of the farm when needed. This may include:

• Helping with basic livestock care
• Feeding and watering animals
• Cleaning stalls and animal areas
• Assisting with sheep, cattle and other livestock
• Helping with general farm maintenance and cleanup
• Assisting with farmers markets and the on-site farm market
• Helping with farm events and special projects

Farm priorities can change quickly, so the ability to stop what you're doing and help when something needs immediate attention is an important part of this position.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience growing vegetables, flowers or other crops
• Knowledge of starting plants from seed
• Experience with greenhouse and/or outdoor growing
• An understanding of planting, transplanting, harvesting and crop maintenance
• Strong attention to detail
• The ability to work independently while also being part of a team
• A strong work ethic and willingness to learn
• The ability to work outdoors and perform physical farm work
• A willingness to work around livestock and assist with general farm chores when needed
• A positive attitude and willingness to jump in wherever help is needed

This is a full-time position within a growing and diversified agricultural business. The person hired will work closely with farm management and our Senior Ranch Hand to keep our vegetable, flower, livestock and farm-market operations running smoothly.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys being part of a farm team and understands that working on a diversified farm means no two days are necessarily the same.

Schedule: Primarily Sunday through Thursday. Schedule may vary based on seasonal farm needs.

Pay: $19.09 to $20.09
